Ford is going to a 100% fixed price online sales model for EV's

Does this include things like add ONS? Seat protector? Paint protector? Useless aftermarket Warranty?
Or an absurd 1700 dollar windshield warranty that only lasts like 5 years. Exactly the Cadillac stealer tried to pull on me. A safelite quote was just under a grand for an out of pocket replacement and I doubt I'm gonna break 2 windshields in 5 years. Those washed up clowns tried to scare me and told me a windshield was over 2k alone. Hogwash.

That's what glass coverage on auto insurance is for. This is exactly why dealerships are hated.

I have a lot of respect for Jim Farley, but I view this statement as a lot of blunderbuss and hype. He mentions 100% online, but does not specifically say “OEM direct“ which is the Tesla distribution approach. Unless they develop a new brand for their EVs, the direct sale will have to come from existing Ford dealers.
All U.S. dealers are protected by very stringent state franchise laws, and the Nat’l Auto Dealer Assoc (NADA) is a very powerful resource. Remember that all dealers have a lot of money tied up in brick & mortar facilities, and an OEM can’t unilaterally decide to bypass their own dealer network. Didn’t Ford recently allow dealers to build separate Bronco showrooms?
I think Mr. Farley is alluding to the “agency model” which is taking hold in Europe, and MB recently announced they’re headed toward that model.

Especially when the stealer demands that on the financer or lessee terms of agreement to have full coverage insurance which basically includes it anyway. I hate dealerships to death. Almost lost my cool and stared laughing at them in the office when they told me I should get windshield insurance since a new windshield is supposedly two grand by their baloney quote. Instead I politely and firmly told them no. Yet they tried to put it in anyway and said it was a simple mistake when I caught it on the paperwork at the end. Almost lost my cool but i held it together and didn't explode somehow and just shrugged it off so I could leave faster. In hindsight I regret being nice because it's time for all of us in society to punish and shame bad people for their intentional and knowingly unethical actions against others instead of being nice to them. We're told to be respectable to the unrespectable by the unrespectable and I'm sick of this ****

Have to see how it works out. Me, I might be ok with it. No try before buy? eh, most test drives are simply not long enough, and seeing how I have yet to drive something that I absolutely hated, I am guessing I simply have low standards and won’t care. Most things I buy new have a fixed price, why not cars too? Price haggling is for used items.

Manufacturers can absolutely end run their own dealer/ importer networks.

Look at Lexus/ Toyota, Acura/ Honda or Infiniti/ Nissan.

These were all born in the 1980s to wiggle out of contracts from the 1950s and 60s.

My wife and I have a Forester on order and the dealer is selling everything at whatever price is current on Subaru's website, so it seems this is becoming a thing. Seems fair enough.
Millennials and sheep are trained to not negotiate and take what their corporate overlords tell them.

I’m not for price gouging, but Im also for negotiating a good price.

That truecar site always bugged me because it was input from dealers/manufacturers, but they were representing what a “good deal” was…

No, we just have better things to do than waste our time with the infuriating process of negotiating. Oh the car costs 2-3,000 more but I’ll be done in 30 minutes vs 2 hours+? Say no more!

Even when I did all the negotiating via email I was incredibly annoyed with the process, AND STILL SPENT 3 HOURS!!!!! at the friggin dealership. “Do you want the interior protection package?” “No, I already told you this….” “Alright, let me go tell the manager…” 🙄

I've been saying for years every manufacturer should move to this system. Now salespeople are only focused on getting you through the process as efficiently as possible and since you pay the same price no matter where you go you can pick the good dealerships over the crap dealerships.

Buying an EV is like shooting yourself in the foot. Buying a Ford EV is like shooting yourself in both.
Ford’s hybrids have been excellent. They were sharing hybrid technology with Toyota back in the 2010’s. I see no reason to expect their EV’s to not perform well. We actually wanted a Fusion Energi because it drove better and was more comfortable but ended up with a Prius Prime since we could actually locate one and the Energi’s were quite hard to find. We were a day late calling on about 3 of them.

Is Ford gonna give me free coffee, free snacks, sponsor my kids toss ball team, give me a loaner car and kiss my ass every time I complain? If not I’m leaving them a bad a survey 🤣

Then they can have all the benefits of the dealership life!

6% of new cars sales in February of this year were electric cars. The electric cars are coming. And once the issues are solved they are better in every way than ICE vehicles. 90% fewer moving parts. Many in this group and very afraid and show it.

Yeah, okay.

There is a push to get people into electric vehicles.
...and it is not the free market doing the "push".

I like the current model, drive to a dealership, test drive a vast inventory, and drive home with what you like. I don't care if the dealership gets a "cut" that is what negotiation is about.
