My next car is most likely going to be a Focus ST, but I'm seriously kicking around the idea of getting a C-Max Energi instead. If this price is any indication then the ST it will be. Still hoping the ST comes in under $30,000.

Ford Focus Electric

"Ford has priced its Focus Electric at $39,995, essentially the same price as the Chevrolet Volt, and more than the Nissan Leaf, which starts at about $35,200.

Buyers will qualify for a $7,500 federal tax credit, which directly reduces the price they pay."

......

" It makes me wonder where they're going to price the C-Max and C-Max Energi," he said, referring to other hybrid and plug-in hybrids Ford will introduce next year."

So we all have to pay for people to drive an electric car. That seems fair.

Why not make a PHEV focus hybrid with 50 MPG capability and no need for all the other add-ons?

While I like the concept of the volt overall, and even full electric cars in some situations, battery technology does indeed need some safety, performance, technology and obviously, cost improvements. An HEV pack is far smaller, and if the focus was made a plug-in, it could have benefits of all worlds and be a practical prius competitor.

if they can do 41 with the fusion, I see no reason why they couldnt do 50 with a focus PHEV... and for $10k+ cheaper.

The C-Max is essentially a slightly larger Focus(think Prius V) and they'll have two hybrid/electric versions of that. One a pure Hybrid and the other a plug in hybrid.
