Ford focus door ajar light help

I wish it something like that. Seems like the Mk2 focus and other vehicles of this era suffer from the integrated/combination door latches getting stuck.
That's exactly right.

The latch, pdl actuator and door ajar switch are all one, and are not intended to be serviceable beyond complete replacement.

I was shocked that all four failed within a few months of each other on this '09 owned by my non-profit. Dusty roads seem to kill them. In our case it was mostly doors that wouldn't unlock or wouldn't open from one or both handles.

If you haven't dealt with ignition switch problems yet, that's next ;)

On my Dodge Neon the dome light is for (whatever reason) tied to the brake light switch behind the brake pedal. My interior light stayed on. The brake pedal switch is behind the brake pedal and has an adjustable rocker on it. I flicked it over and that solved my problem. Hope this helps.
This is very common shared wiring-- they want you to know if you blow your brake light fuse by annoying you with the absence of your dome light.

Oh wonderful! I wasn’t aware of that issue - I guess always gotta have something to look forward to lol

Ok so I swapped the driver’s door latch. Door ajar indicator is still on

I see the later Focus seem to call out specifically which door is being sense as open. But being a first month model of the Mk2 doesn’t say door ajar in the DIC - it just has the little red light on the side of the instrument panel.

Any suggestions on how to troubleshoot this? I’d like to get the dome light back on now that it’s getting dark real early.

Apparently, I forgot to plug back the door connector in. Took the door panel off and sure enough, plug it in and everything works fine. I just used one of the finest Chinesium units I got off eBay. So we’ll see how long this lasts. Here’s how I got around to diagnosing which door latch was faulty:

Close all doors but do not lock them.
Wait for the dome light to turn off (about 10-15 minutes)
Now open the drivers door...does the light turn on?
  • No...that's the door with the faulty switch!
  • Yes...close door
    • Wait for the dome light to turn off (about 10-15 minutes)
Now open the front passenger door...does the light turn on?
  • No...that's the door with the faulty switch!
  • Yes...close door
    • Wait for the dome light to turn off (about 10-15 minutes)
