My dad own 2003 ford explore 4.0L ( will do auto rx soon )
My brother own 1995 Ford Winstar 3.1L ( will do auto rx soon )
I own 98 ford mustang 4.6L ( auto rx treatment )

Best Dino oil for these cars please, no maxlife, no mobile 1 , no syntec oils please. Mostly these car doing very short trip and in town driving.

Sm dino.
People will just tell you their favorite oil and that their grandpa has used it for 20 years and when he tore down the engine it was clean or something.

SM is a API service rating for gas engines, almost all dino oils have it. SuperTech and all of the other cheap SM dino oils will do fine when changed at proper time/mileage.

Whatever brand name dino is on sale. I'd run Motorcraft, Pennzoil, or Valvoline if it were mine. I have used SuperTech in the past but I hate supporting Wal-mart. I would rather run Napa brand oil made by Valvoline than SuperTech.

I agree...I have a problem buying anything from Wal-Mart. You can find plenty of discounted oils. I know Auto Zone had Exxon Super Flo gallons for 6 dollars.

whatever you can get cheapest. MotorCraft, Pennzoil, CastrolGTX, Kendall, TropArtic, Valvoline, Havoline... any name brand has shown well. SuperTech is a great oil, too, but you "might" have to go with a slightly shorter interval with Supertech or other off-brand oils.

As a test I ran SuperTech in a Protege for 5k miles, sent in UOA. The oil did well, but at 5k, it was time to change. So, as others noted, watch the interval.

I would use either of the following in the OEM recommended viscosity:
  • Mobil Clean 5000 SM
  • Ford Motorcraft SM

Both of these brands meet Ford specifications.

Correct 100% agree

I prefer Pennzoil. But do to cost in my wifes 2003 Explorer I using Trop Artic and an Motorcraft filter. The Motorcraft filter is the way to go.

Not pushing any one decent brand, but WM in my area has the Motorcraft oils for 2.32 per quart. The good part is thier 5w20,5w30 and 10w30 oils are synthetic blend. In fact, thier oils are made by Conoco-Phillips using the hydrocracking process. The bottom line is most of your brand name oils will do the job under normal conditions and OCI's. Don't forget a good oil filter is also important.

Motorcraft performs excellent in these cars. If you want just one grade then 5W-30 but the 4.6 could easily go 5W-20.

Trop-Artic is good to (just about identical) and the Motorcraft filter is awesome for the price at Walmart.
