Easy there, Ben. Take a deep breath.

As an owner of several Silverados I was very interested in my Father in Laws new (to him) 09 F150 5.4.

I will flat out tell you this is a gorgeous truck! Stunning inside, too, and the whole look and feel of it is awesome in every respect. I would take one in a minute. Kinda felt like it was worth MORE than he paid.

BUT, side by side with my 2005 5.3 Silverado it was no contest. I ran away from him like he turned off his engine! And I get an honest 17mpg in my favorite on e10 fuel! He gets 12.

I suspect the Ford is a bit heavier. And who knows how it will age out, a few more miles (it has 7k) will loosen it up a bit. But for regular driving duties I'd take his truck first any day.

As for servicing, in a pickup the Chevy wins easy. But get a GM van and you'll trade it before you'll want to change plug!

The F-150
FX4 4x4 weighs 5,639lbs

The Silverado
LS 4x2 weighs 4,379lbs
Z71 4x4 weighs 4,668lbs

So yeah, even if your truck is a Z71 4x4, his truck STILL weighs 1,000lbs more!

And holy revived old thread batman!!!

Hey, a good thread is a good thread. And my FIL really did just get an 09 Ford.

Since few owners are going to twin turbo their motor the Ford's construction advantages are negligible.

Stock versus Stock even I agree the Ford is a superior vehicle in ALMOST every area.

Until you want to DRIVE it! Then the Chevy is simply dynamically superior due to that huge weight difference. Turning, stopping, going, and gas mileage.

We'll see how they hold up when they've got 100,000 miles on 'em!

Comparing an '05 pre-GMT900 GM to an '09 Ford is apples to oranges. If you compare a new GM, they will be within a couple hundred pounds of each other.

Hey, it was two pickup owners who are competitive.

It eventually ALWAYS comes down to a little rat race around some of the deserted back roads around here.

And the new GM products remain several hundred pounds lighter than comparably equipped Fords. The weights are about 5000 for the new gen GM and well over 5500 for the Ford. The difference is more than enough to allow a fantastic dynamic advantage to the GM boys.

You have to pay in fuel, tires, brakes, etc., for all that extra "road hugging" weight!
