Ford Explorer U251 reliability?

Forgot to mention, the change oil light came on.

- Liqui Moly Pro-Line Engine Flush for 15 minutes
- Liqui Moly Leichtlauf Special F 5w30 (ACEA A5/B5-08 & WSS-M2C-913-C)
- Motorcraft FL-820S
- Motorcraft FA-1695
- Motorcraft FG-1083
- Cross tire rotation
- Blew out the pads/rotors with compressed air and cleaned them up with CRC brake cleaner
- Lubricated the door hinges/hood latch with grease

Very nice! They always look good in black. I see you have the nicer 17" wheels, they may be standard over there. 16" is standard here. FYI, both the 4.0 Explorers we use to own ran great on Shell Rotella T5 10w30.

Tip for down the road:

If you ever hear a hissing noise coming from the passenger footwell area, it is the A/C vacuum check valve. This is located in the engine bay, against the top of the firewall passenger side, on a black vacuum hose. Its a black & white plastic check valve the size of your thumb, and cost about $7 from rockauto.

This XLT model was pretty much the only one available when it was up for sale new. I'm not too familiar with the Explorer just yet, but the Crown Vics had different features and options for this market. I reckon this could very well be the same.

Off the top of my head, the 17" wheels were standard alongside:

- manual AC controls
- remote keyless entry
- auto dim rearview mirror
- auto headlamps
- message center with compass/temperature reading
- leather wrapped steering wheel with illuminated cruise/audio controls
- reverse sensing system
- manual third row 50/50 seats
- Class IV tow package with 7-pin wiring
- ControlTrac 4WD

The driver's side has a power adjuster and manual recliner, passenger side is 2 way manual. Definitely thinking about adding front passenger footwell illumination and power adjustable pedals at some point. Will also look into the keypad entry.

Thanks! Looking to get the windows tinted (30% now the legal limit) soon, and start blacking out the chrome (probably going to debadge the chrome Explorer logo).

Wow, thanks a lot!!

Seems a lot easier than I thought, and I just got too used to this feature. Really convenient when you're out and need to get something out the car, but don't have the keys on you.

If you're buying the regular Euro II stuff:

87 AKI/91 RON: 22¢/liter (83¢/US Gallon)
91 AKI/95 RON: 23¢/liter (87¢/US Gallon)
93 AKI/98 RON: 32¢/liter ($1.21/US Gallon)

If you want the Euro V stuff:

91 AKI/95 RON: 92¢/liter ($3.48/US Gallon)

Liter of water depends where it's imported from, but locally sourced water generally costs 22¢ for a one liter bottle.
