Tig1,
Did you notice ANY advantages in using Mobil 1 Extended Performance 5w20 after starting out with Mobil 1 Extended Performance 5w30? Such as increased fuel mileage, oil consumption, noise, etc?
By the way, with Advance Auto parts, ridding their shelves of Motorcraft FULL Synthetic 5W20 @ $2.95 / qt, your engine would be the perfect test bed to compare the differences between the two products. That Motorcraft runs quite a bit thinner at both 40C and 100C than Mobil 1 5W20 and has the same HT/HS (2.7) as Mobil 1 Extended Performance 5w20. [I am assuming that this is the same product as Kendall GT1-1 Full Synthetic with a motorcraft label on it].
Both Duratechs started out on the 5-30EP. Johnny convinced me to try the 5-20EP as he was having great success with it. In Dec I switched the Fusion over and did notice the engine was slightly smoother and very slightly quiter. Same with the Focus. With that said the 5-30EP was outstanding. I drove the Fusion to Florida and was very careful to check the mileage with the on board MPG indicator. In Nov 09 I got 30.9
MPG with 5-30 ep, and in March I got 32.8 with the 5-20EP, both trips to Gainsville same route and speed. No oil comsumption at all with either oil.
