What has Ford done? Direct injection, 3 cylinder, auto stop start, AND turbo. They are giving almost $6000 off to take one off their hands. Is the Ecosport really that bad?

Is that a clear out model? Maybe they are giving good incentives. Ford will make money on Trucks and big SUVs. If you like it go for it. Do those models have transmission issues?

It's apparently a Euro design they imported to America. Sounds like a disaster to me. Maybe a Kia Rio or Hyundai Accent would be a better idea.

For what it's worth, I'm sitting at 195K miles on my 1.0L in focus and hasn't burned any oil (OCIs at 5K intervals at dealer), but it's slightly lighter car.

The 1.0L engine is not a bad engine - now that the USDM market gets it after they fixed all the issues. Headgasket issues were pretty rampant when the engine first came out in Europe back in 2012 but that's been fixed since. The water pump might still be an issue but that seems like that's more of a Ford thing. My water pump was leaking and replaced under warranty at 30K miles and hasn't had an issue since. Reliability wise it's pretty simple and basic machine to maintain. 3 spark plugs and lots of room to work with.

You can definitely feel the difference when you load up the car with one or two passengers - it would have matched the Fiesta A LOT better.

One thing I do not understand is the oil-bathed timing belt is a lifetime part in the US models, but the Europe manual says it should be replaced at 150K.

Now the ecosport itself is kind of dumb (and other crossovers in it's categories.) It's literally nothing more than a taller Fiesta. At least an Escape has more room.

Just a junker of a vehicle to help them meet CAFE targets, most likely.

This was my assumption on why they brought the 1.0L over in the focus to the States too.

An elderly woman I know leased one about a year ago and she loves it. I wouldn't buy one betting on the longevity of that three-pot engine but as a lease for someone who just drives to the grocery store and church it seems OK.

I doubt it is much of a vehicle.
However you can get a brand new one real cheap.
Got on Autotrader, and a Florida dealership has an S model, stickers at $21240, can buy for $13117.
$8123 off. Guessing it's not in high demand.

Yea close to that in my area too. Chevy is also giving off a ton on its midsize SUVs. As usual, Honda and Toyota are not offering anything really.

I had one for a loaner from a Ford dealer a while back.

It is not a quality vehicle. Always hunting for a gear because the power band is nonexistent, squeaks and rattles going down the highway and the interior is abysmal in every way imaginable. This was a car that had 19 miles on it when I took it and had 2900 when I brought it back. I was almost hoping someone would crash into me so I could get something else.

Ford Motor Company should be embarrassed for building such a complete piece of garbage.

WOW, I guess it is no surprise then. The average consumer is smarter than Ford gives them credit for, I guess.

i test drove one a year or so ago. suburbs, 15min, up to 50mph, it was surprisingly ok and decently comfortable up front for me at 6’2” and 225lbs, but hideously overpriced when new. i have no idea what it does on a highway, but i have low expectations. as a 2+2 seater, non highway, errand doer, at a realistically much lower cpo price, it may be ok.

"The EcoSport also is produced at plants in Brazil, India, Thailand and Russia.."

People must like them and Ford needs something to replace the Fiesta (DCT fiasco).

Some ground clearance, higher up seating and a hatch/liftgate is what the market wants.

Not my cup of tea, but I don't see how they can be any worse than anything else in this particular lower cost CUV segment.

Spend the extra money to get a slightly used Escape with the 2.5L engine. No turbo, no AWD, no stop start, and an engine with a proven track record. The only thing I hate about those Escapes is the Electronic Parking Brake.

One thing I hate about a lot or at least most SUV's is that they seem to make them hard to work on as if they were a van.

The ones sold in the US are made in India, the VINs begin with "M".

FWIW the backorders on parts for these are obscene. Ford has been having TONS of backorder parts. I did a parts list for the oil pump drive belt on a EcoSport 1.0L today and only 2 of the parts on the list were cross shipped. That is huge compared to a few months ago where over half the parts I looked up with on backorder with no date off.
