Just a friendly reminder to dump those catch cans. Yes, they can freeze solid if you don't.

This was empty about 2 weeks ago. I took it off and showed it to my son who hasn't the slightest clue about anything engine related and he said; 'that's that forbidden peanut butter.' To which I replied, 'well, it's not exactly the Dairy Queen frozen treat of the month." :D

For reference, this is off a GM 6.2L Vortec (port injection, not DI).

that is quite a bit. nasty. do you think you have an issue?

An issue with the catch can doing exactly as it should? No. It's a $25 part and I have two of them so I just swap in a clean one. They fill up fast in the winter but I could go months in the summer without a swap.
no i was wondering why it was filling up in the first place. how long does it take to fill?

You'll have to research how catch cans work, but the gist is it's blow by vapor that's an emulsification of oil and water. Much more when it's down around 0°F due to condensation, so maybe an ounce every few days.

thanks for the class. i know how they work.

i was just commenting on how much was in your can, and asking how long it took to get that full.

in short, it might be abnormal

I have a one on my jeep, but run ran the hose to atmosphere instead of back into the intake

it is pretty bad

Another three weeks. Much warmer at night. No more frozen DQ treat, just the normal petrol espresso. Again; normal.

BTW, even the best can doesn't catch every drop. For some reason the mist loves to stick to the cathedrals and even the back of the TB flapper. 🤨
