so that was a Lada!?

I don't know for that one but those from late the 80s and beginning of the 90s had 1.8l engines and were high flyers...

Fo on da flo, no power anything. Had a cassette deck and CB though.

Before I was old enough to drive, these were advertised ad nauseum on Hockey Night in Canada in the early 70s. Burned into my memory banks:

"Mercury Bobcat
Mercury Bobcat
It's a good little car, easy on the gas,
Got lotsa power when you're goin' to pass,
Mercury Bobcat"

The Bobcat was a slightly blinged-out Pinto, to give the Mercury-Lincoln dealers a small car.

Yesrs later a friend had one, in jellybean orange. The 4-speed manual had incredibly tall gears. Ghastly car to drive compared to the Japanese competition of the day.

My dads CASE 430 backhoe at 8-9 years old.
Also, this was my 1st backhoe to operate. My dad would let me loose in our field to just dig and cover holes. It was a foot swing/3 lever hoe. Talk about complicated..........well, at first, anyway.

1968 Ford Bronco with a 3 on the tree!

I took driver's education through the school and one of the cars was a 1976 Chevy Vega. I'm guessing the vast majority of today's new drivers can't drive a car with a manual.

Started with a Ford golden harvester tractor. Then a late 60's c-10 chevy pickup. I drove school buses when i was in high school( I don't think they let students do that anymore). Drove all the makes of school buses we had then. The Fords, the occasional Chevy and my favorite was the Internationals.

When I went on trips with my high school band, they used mostly Ford and International chassis. I noticed the Internationals rode better.
I was amazed to see high school students driving busses in North Carolina as recently as the 1980s, when I lived there. My uncle did while he was in high school in Kentucky, but much, much earlier, soon after school busses were invented.

We had a good group, they were careful with selection and training. we had no problems. I got out of class to drive field trips for the elementary/middle schoolers. The interesting thing, was in addition to training. One of the criteria for being a bus driver was, having a place to park the bus on your own property. At that time you kept your bus at home, cleaned it your self and it was checked weekly for cleanliness. They felt there was less chance of vandalism if all the buses were not in the same place lined up.

I liked the international buses. I drove the fords a few times, they were ok, but i needed a football field to turn one around!! They had a really wide turning radius.

My parents' 1992 Corolla which was only 2 years old back then.

Then my first car was a used 1989 Tercel 5 speed, which I kept for 12 years. Even today, my daily driver is manual. Sure, automatics have gotten way better and even surpassed manuals for fuel efficiency, but I enjoy shifting gears myself. My daily commute is mostly highway without any traffic.

These were 1,6l i think predominantly
Those latter had 1,8l

Lada powerful at the time but thirsty too

I learned on my dad's 1987 Golf with the 4-speed and my first own car was a 1991 Civic Coupe with a 5-speed.

Great pic of a Lada Dyusik. When I was in Jamaica, I saw many, most tucked away in a side yard. Runners were generally in poor shape. The USSR swapped them for bauxite.
