I am doing maintenance in prep for a drive to Boston. I want to do a complete brake overhaul. Any recommended pads, shoes. rotors and drums? The Ford stock rear drum brakes have always been noisy, to the point I am constantly checking for wear. I am leaning toward ceramic pads for the front brakes.

Ceramic brakes have much less dust - this is a big factor for street vehicles. We don't use our brakes hard for the great majority of our braking.
New rear shoes will take a long while to seat in. What is wrong with yours? You have to lube the points where they slide on the backing plate, and any adjusting mechanism and parking brake stuff.
Front disc brakes? Plain faced rotors for sure - not drilled, slotted, etc.. Autozone has Duralast Ceramic Gold pads with a lifetime warranty, and are quite reasonable in price.

If your front brake rotors are running true(No steering wheel shake when applying brakes) and they are within thickness spec I would only replace pads. Ceramic would be good.
The noise you may be getting from the rear may be just brake dust, assuming the shoes are still fine. Front calipers and back brake pistons are OK if they are not leaking.

It would be nice to get the drums off and see what's going on. Will bust the rust on the ring where it mates with the axle. More than likely you'll find a bunch of dust you can bang out, a ridge of rust you can sand/grind off where the shoes don't rub, and you can tighten the adjuster manually a couple clicks so the rears do more work. (Usually the rears start off barely contributing and only get worse: will save your fronts from overheating.)
