Fluid recommendations for Mazda fnr5

I've done a lot of searching but most of the info is dated.
I need atf that meets the M-V/M5 spec
I recently got a fusion with the Mazda automatic for a family member and would like to swap out the fluid before they start driving it.

The Mazda OEM fluid is ungodly expensive and if have to drive an hour or so to the dealer.

I've seen some use Transmax multi

And possibly the Mag1 multi

I see Idemitsu makes a Mazda spec fluid but I would need to order it.

Any alternatives with good results?

So here's something that's fun. According to Ford, the FNR5 fluid updates / supercedes to Mercon V.

Anyone tried it? It is the correct viscosity compared to Mazda FZ and while not explicitly meeting FZ it’s recommended for it per the Valvoline PDS. I’ve already done 2 full fluid changes on my 2016 CX-5 (as in 3 drain and fills each time to get as much fresh fluid in it), and that’s expensive with FZ at $20/ quart. I also add a bottle of Lubegard Platinum and the trans is butter smooth. I’d like to keep it that way.

Thread 'Alternative to Mazda MV'

There is a chance that I will have to change out Mazda MV ATF on a relative's vehicle during the holidays.

If I can't get hold of genuine Mazda MV, what would a suitable alternative be?

Also, if I wanted to do multiple drain and fills, how much driving should there be between each one?

What's confusing is the multi vehicle atf also shows it meets the M-V spec

Why would both the multi and cvt universal meet the specs being different application fluids?

If Maxlife has taught us anything its that MANY atf's are very similar.. I'd bet money either of the castrol products or maxlife would be just fine.

Mercon V doesn't meet the Mazda spec unfortunately

My 2007 Ford Fusion calls for FNR-5 atf, but I only use M1 ATF which doesn't have the FNR spec. The Fusion now has 333K and I do drain and fills every 30-35K. The trans still shifts as well as when new, both up and down.

The white bottle of lucas at the auto parts store states it meets mazda m-v on the back.

I personally have been using valvoline maxlife in my 2002 protege that calls for M-V and am at a happy 260k miles. No signs of slips or anything. One of my customers is at 350k on her 2006 mazda 3 with the same maxlife. We have been doing hers every 30k with a filter change every other fluid change since she bought it at 170k miles. No clue on any fluid changes before she bought it.
