Flowtech Raptor Turbo Muffler--any good?

Well after two weeks I am quite pleased with this muffler soundwise. Nice throaty growl when I give it some pedal, right off the line, and still sounds goot up to 3800 rpm (max I take it). Could do with a tad less drone at highway speed and in the neighborhood. Happens at certain rpms mostly. But not sure what kills drone, is it case thickness or what.

Anyway, the Raptor was full diameter all the way in, whereas the other day I looked into the Thrush turbo and the inside diameter is significantly reduced once it gets inside the muffler and that's not good.

TallPaul, I am a muffler junkie and it sounds like you're well on your way. (I will sponsor you if you want to go to an MA meeting (Mufflerolics Anonymous).

I've tried 'em all at one time or another. Currently I have a Hooker AeroChamber on the wife's V6 Explorer and it sounds real good for a six. I strongly recommend it; excellent muffler for a reasonable price.

Another good one is the MAC FlowPath that works on the 'Helmholtz' principle. You'll need a resonator added with it, since it does drone at certain rpms.

If you want to eliminate resonance, pick up a MAC single chamber racing muffler and add it in front of your existing muffler. It's not restrictive and will act like a resonator.....

the raptor will last probably 3 years or more, they are not as bad as being said and they are even made in the USA... As for the droning yep inline 6, best muffler I have found for the inline 6 is the Magnaflow large case mufflers, good sound less drone, a step quieter than the raptor, just my .02

The better question now is what would you recommend as a good muffler. I don't need one to last forever, but a 5+ year life would be nice. Soundwise I would like it to roar when I mat the pedal, but to be relatively quiet when light footed. The raptor drones on highway in OD but much nicer in 4th gear. I think it is a function of load on the engine produces more sound. I am not dissatisfied with the Raptor, but other than the improved sound, I would say the stock muffler with a hole in the back and a side pipe sounded just as good. Just might fix the stocker up and remount it when the Raptor bites the dust. Other than the weight of the stocker, it will be just fine and looks like it has enough life in it to last the rest of the trucks life. At that time I will mount it a bit farther forward and route a pipe out the side, in front of the wheel. Yeah I have holes in the back plate and it is cut up, but I can get a piece of steel and bolt it over that and then cut a hole for a new tailpipe. Or just run it as is. I don't care if exhaust goes out under the bed. It's been that way for 5 years with no ill effect.

So maybe Flowmaster is the Fram of the muffler industry????

So is the muffler still there or did is disintegrate away since it has almost been two years?
