Imasay 345hrs on one oci is a tad bit much for a Cummins 6.7l living the easy life as a stationary generator. Oil was for sure saftykleen 15w-40. This one definitely had 345hrs on the oil and the oil filter. Fairly new engine with 614hrs total.
SLUDGE yeah!!!!!

No flecks in the filter media just black.

You can definitely run these fleetguard oil filters way longer than 350hrs if you change the dmn oil well before 300hrs.
On my truck 345hrs would be over 10,000miles.
If you want to do 10,000mile oci I say test the oil and cut the filter, at least bare minimum cut the filter open and look at it.
This engine is nicely asking "please don't run 300+ hr oci on me boss".

Member Doug Hillary ran Delvac 1 ESP 5w40 way over 10k miles in big engines. 🤔🤔

Well that's synthetic oil and im not saying it can't be done.
Doing it with conventional oil doesn't seem like a great idea.
I’ll disagree. Work used Safety Kleen oil longer than I’m alive and I’ve saw lots of clean valvetrians with long OCI. Just cause it “doesn’t seem like good idea” don’t make it right.

Look at DNewtons conventional UOA’s

I forgot to add the oil was about 2 years old. If you can run up 10,000 miles in 6 months, it would probably be fine.
To me I looks like 345hrs over 2 years is no good.

I get a little bit of that sediment stuff in my LF16035 & LF9028 Fleetguard cans when doing approximately 10k/310hr changes on my 6.7L Cummins Ram truck running 5w40 T6 or VPBE.

I'm curious, sludge or soot? I just ran 2 years and 7,500 miles on my Cummins Ram with Mystik JT8 15w40. No sludge on that filter when I cut it open.

Then why does oil go bad still in a sealed bottle and why does Cummins recommend 6 month oil changes?
Oil doesn't degrade past 6 months just sitting in a bottle, or even in the sump. Think some oil makers have said (iirc) that new oil in the bottle can last ~5 years with no issues.

Well, ya can’t fix stupid. That PZ oil from 1969 had been sitting in an un heated garage in a file cabinet too long I used a hot plate to heat it up before dumping it I.

Yeah John Deere oil says it has a 3 year shelf life from the time of purchase.

Sludge is mostly soot particles that overwhelmed the detergent dispersant and started sticking together.
It's a common rail with no emissions, so it probably makes a bit more soot.
It was also not running US made ultra low sulfur diesel so that didn't help.
This was 2 years and more like 10,000 miles. Yeah 7,500 is probably fine, 80 hours difference can make a big difference.
The detuz manual for the 15L engine says 500hrs for ULSD and half that for overseas higher sulfur fuel.

The 6.7L common rail Cummins runs 190F oil at the expected continuous 20kw load with intermittent 100kw loading.
The average pickup driving down the interstate would be under a heavier continuous load.
