In the Garage...
Trans Am has a flat tire that cannot be repaired. I put the tires on in 2017. They have 3400 miles on them.
They no longer make this tire. They are Coopers and they make one very similar. To replace all 4 is about 1000 bucks.
I know what I am going to do, replace all four, but was wondering what others here would do/think.

It would drive my OCD nuts but I'd be pretty tempted just to replace the one... At least you can try to sell the other 3
Yeah my OCD wouldn't let me replace the one. Maybe they will let me roast them off in the parking lot.

I would try to find a used tire of the same model with similar tread... next option would be finding a NOS tire and having it shaved to match.

Both of those can be time consuming so set of four it is, you might get a couple bucks for the remaining three...

I couldn't find a used one.

If it was a daily, get a used tire as an emergency, then replace all four whenever it is convenient. Otherwise, just get the set of four.

I guess my question is, why only an average of 850 miles per year over the last 4 years on these tires? Is it worth that kind of money for very little use? I get it, as yourself and K.Aoi said, my OCD would kill me, but when do you draw a line?

Check the date code.
They should be around 5 yrs old.
Suggested change out is 6-8yrs depending on who you want to believe.
Does that make you feel better?

I just changed out tires on my wife's Edge... they were 7 yrs old.

I blew out a tire on my accord. I looked very carefully for the same OE tire, used, on eBay. I knew the tread depth on the other three, and I picked an unrepaired one that was close.

That was around 50k miles. I now have around 70k miles on the original tires. I was a little hesitant to get a used tire that was a few years old already, but it’s working out fine. The tires will age out, I just passed six years.

Similarly on my 1982 300cd I had a blowout on one rear tire about 100 miles from home. I bought one tire because they all had maybe 2000 miles on them. I figure I’ll just eventually age that one tire out with the other three…

So I’d look for a good used, unrepaired tire, or maybe nos if you can find it, and run it. You don’t drive the car much anyway, right? Were thinking of selling it?

It’s one thing if you’re going to be driving it 100 mph around the track…. Another for a garage queen.
