Flash consistently crashes several times a day. Happened with Mint16 and 17. And FF29 and 30. Is this just the nature of flash being run in Linux? I've unchecked "Enable Hardware Acceleration" with little/no effect.

Adobe no longer supports Flash on Linux; the latest version of Flash available for Linux is 11.2 (while everybody else is on version 13 or 14).

Have you tried Google Chrome? I go back and forth between Firefox and Chrome, but Chrome does have its own built-in Flash player. It would be interesting to see if you have more success with it. About the only thing I use Flash for on Linux, however, is watching a YouTube video, and both browsers seem to run it fine...though I'm using Xubuntu and not Mint.

Chrome's is the official Adobe Flash Player and will remain updated alongside Chrome.

It is not entirely true, too, that Adobe has ceased development of Flash for Linux: Flash is still available for Linux, but only through an API (Application Programming Interface) they call "Pepper". I do not know offhand if Firefox yet supports Pepper but I do know that it is trivial to install Pepper-supported Flash in Chromium.

I've just installed Chromium with pepper. Is chrome better or is chromium fine?

I've used both and they appear to operate the same. Chromium comes "burr-nekkid" without any commercial plug-ins, add-ons, etc. Chrome-the-browser comes with Flash and support for additional video and audio codecs.

Here is a nice comparison of the two:

Unless you're absolutely and completely opposed to anything but true open source software, I'd recommend Chrome instead of Chromium.

Thanks for that succinct explanation. I've been running Chrome for a while, but didn't know there was a difference...

Remove Flash. There are fewer and fewer sites requiring it these days. HTML5, Silverlight, and other technologies are taking its place.

You have done this with Firefox 29 or 30?

I'm kinda liking Chromium so far. Hasn't missed a beat. Haven't had a problem with any sites I use for work. So that's good.

I've actually got Chromium set up better than I ever did with FF. I never used the bookmarks bar in FF. A row of icons is way faster than the bookmarks menu for commonly used links. Don't know how I missed that all these years. Is there a way to group the icons in Chromium?

Chromium uses about 2/3 of the room up top as FF. I've never been able to figure out how to remove the useless title bar in FF.

I now see there's an addon that will do it. Much better.
