You're welcome. Spied the new m1 EP filters and most are made January 2017 timeframe. I wasn't impressed as few that had louvers; louvers weren't open much

Hey Adam..thanks for the pics, but how did the louvers look..? I'm having a hard time seeing the pics from my phone.

First pic is FL-500S and louvers were sketchy

2nd pic is FL-400S and the louvers were wide open

FL-820S and FL-1A and diesel oil filters (Motorcraft) didn't have louvers

What's with everyone going to darn louvers, I hate them, every one I look at there barely open, there was nothing wrong with holes.

Correct, looking at pics(not necessarily this one)one can clearly see many are closed and barley open 1/4 way. For me this is unacceptable for good flow vs. a center tube with large holes.

Louvers are fine IF they are formed well. If they are barely an open slit then it's possible it could cause flow restriction and high delta-p across the filter which would cause the bypass valve to open all the time.

I've used a bunch of FL500S' and they were all in great shape after my 5-7K mile oci's, but last week I passed on the MC filter. The louvers are fine but every FL500S I picked off the shelf (at both walmart and Advance) had louvers that appeared to be poorly stamped out. I couldn't see any that were opened up enough to make me comfortable enough to purchase. The new M1 filters also looked bad in the louvers, so for a short oci I bought a Fram with the "old fashioned" holes in the tube.

I've got two MCs in my garage. Think I'll swing by the store tomorrow after work and see if I can grab a few more of the old design.

Well, changed my mind and went down to the parts store tonight. They had two FL-500s; one old and one new. I bought both. Not only the louvers look good, there are significantly more louvers than holes in comparision. Plus they appear to be arranged to create a vortex type of flow. As long as the flaps are not poorly formed, I'd be willing to bet you get better flow with this new design.

I can't get a good pic with my phone, but the rest of the filter (on the surface) looks exactly the same. Still made in the USA. I might get that oil can cutter early and break into one to see how it looks...

Good to hear that you found a good one with louvers. I'm willing to buy another FL500S if the louvers are punched out good. I just couldn't find any last week. They looked terrible but maybe they would have been ok...I don't know.

They know how.

Purolator doesn't need to add any further complications to their quality control procedures right now. They shouldn't have even been adjusting paint schemes and product lines without getting basic construction in order first.
