Don't waste you hard earned $$$ on syn unless you are going to use the Main advantage they offer [extended oil change intervals]

This is infamous SMS who believes that synthetic oil is a waste of money. I believe otherwise. I switched to synthetic in 1998 and will never go back (except during short break-in of a new engine).

I first used Synthetic oil in my 1968 Yamaha 125 it was called Steen C chemical lubricant .I ran Amsoil, M1 [yes the 5w20] and Allproff and EON starting in the early 70s .Around the middle 90s it seemed all the engines I repaired or adjusted the valves on looked really good , especially good with HDEOS which at the time the syn pcmo oils had similar add packages to the HDEOS. So based on results from my experience at work syn oils unless recommended by the manufacture or for extended oil change intervals or in real cold or superhard operatingconditions there is no reason to use syn oil especially at conventionaloil, oil change intervals

There is no reason for getting the Biggie fries and drink instead of the regular combo, but I always do.

I wonder which would be the biggest waste (or waist)?

Yeah, like when you claimed we could not get Mobil 1 Extended Performance in 5 quart jugs at Walmart (for $28.50)? Hahahahhaha.

I am sure that very soon you will awarded the Nobel Prize in Economics for saving the world's financial resources by eliminating unnecessary synthetic oil changes.

However, if I ever go to the dealer (which is likely for 30K and 60K service) I want to try and save some bucks since they'll overcharge anyway.

Forget about the 30K and 60K service. They are gigantic ripoffs and are not mandated by the manufacturer. Look at the maintenance schedule in your owners manual (or other doc if applicable) and figure out what must be done at 30K (but skip the oil change since you can do this yourself). Most likely that will be only the transmission service (change fluid) and radiator service (change fluid) and air filter.

You can do the air filter yourself (get the OEM parts), Then call the service department and ask for a quote on transmission service and radiator service. Check for service specials on dealer websites. If you live close to other dealers, shop around.

The rest of the 30K service is complete fluff, like inspecting this and that (they will inspect your car for you anyway for free to see if they can sell you some more services).

Thanks for the info.... I do believe you are right! I'll keep that in mind
