first oil change/ Synthetic blend

Hello to all,

Talking further to a service advisor regarding my first oil change I wanted to go to a synthetic right away BUT he advises to transition slowly by using a synthetic blend instead of ging full throttle pur synthetic. What do you think of synthetic blends????? Will this 50/50 mix take my to another 6K???

I think your service advisor needs to get his brain checked. No reason not to go straight to a ful synthetic. But if your adamant about this, you could try Motorcraft Synthetic Blend, it's excellent.

Service "adviser" =

Ask him about Corvettes and how they transition to syn oil in that engine.

If you want to run syn then go ahead. It's not the magic people make it out to be and not much different than normal oil.

It is oil after all...

I'll take NONE. (unless YOU mix it yourself. Even with that most Conventional oils have some blends)

I believe most blends are about 20% synt. If you want to use synt the guys are right in that you can go to it any time. 35 years ago the common understanding was put 10,000 miles on an engine before switching, but not anymore.

What tig1 says is correct, somewhere between 11% and 20% depending on the brand. Go for the full synthetic now and be done with it.

I heard the new Motorcraft 5-20 is about 70% synth, but downgraded the base oil a bit.

Anyway, if you want to use full synthetic, go ahead and use it.
People in the car business at all levels are very under informed about oils. He meant well.

Sounds like a broken record, but go ahead and use your choice of synthetic and feel good about driving. The guy you talked to is caught up in decade old wives' tales.

Had to talk to another service adviser at another dealership cuz the one I was planning to see saturday decided to close for the entire weekend so that mess-up my plans.

Saturday I'm seeing a Chevy dealership about a mile down the road so it might tunr out better than going to the Cadillac place origionally planed to see.

Based on your replies I do believe I'm gonna ask him to put in Mobil 1 like he said they use at his dealership/service bays. This makes me feel better cuz the Caddy place uses Castrol "Syntec" in stead of M1. Why they use this instead of M1 I can't say. Who knows what deal they made.

Anyway I'll let you guys know later what happens so wait for my reply later Saturday.

Any truth to the statement I've seen that cars leaving the factory with synthetic have rings designed to wear in with it. And cars leaving the factory w/o synthetic have rings that aren't designed to wear in correctly with synthetic and shouldn't be switched for several oil changes?

None whatsoever. The engine will break in just the same with synthetic as with dino, albeit maybe a little bit slower but not enough to make a difference.

Guys/Gals,

I had my OCI done putting in Mobil 1 5w30 weight. No blend in this one so I satisfied/happy they didn't give mea hard time about my choice of oil.

Many times I have gone from conventional to synthetic at 3000 miles, and never once did I have a problem.
