This isn’t the first oil change I’ve done on an MKVII Jetta as some of you know. Regardless is was easy peasy lemon squeezy. I changed it 30 miles before my target of 1000 miles but I went ahead since I have this weekend off. Next change is planed for 2500 miles, then 5000 miles, then every 5000 miles thereafter. The oil that went in was OEM VW / Audi 508.00 0w20 and an OEM filter. This takes 4.2 quarts with filter which brought the level right to the top of the cross hatched area on the dipstick. We have had a rainy week so I was unable to wash the car after as is my typical practice. This is a nice way to spend a Saturday. Hopefully later today wifey and I will go “glow paddling” at the beach. Stay safe all.

I purchase the oil and filter through ECS tuning. They provide 5 quarts, 1 oil filter, 1 drain plug and crush washer and an oil change sticker for around $55 shipped. Very reasonable.
Do you need a new drain plug with each oil change?

It makes you feel good to know you got the initial break in trash out of the motor, doesn't it? 
1st oil change you need a new plug but after that only a crush washer
I thought the plug was one time use only.
I believe VW recommends a new plug with each oil change. Easy enough and ECS sends a new one every time. No brainer.

No, the plug is not a consumable item and after the first change it can be used indefinitely. Only the crush washer needs to be changed every time.

It means the car is in Park and you must press on the brake to put it in gear.
I have rhino ramps just like those. Only ramp I've seen that will fit under the civic and still provides good lift, changed the oil/gas on the civic with them today.

Why do you, or anyone, need a new plug for the first oil change? I don't think the vehicle knows the difference.

No evidence to back it up but I err on the side of an oil change on a new vehicle of 2k or under. I do similar to what you are doing for the break in period. Incremental increases in OCI.

My deceased Jetta MKV would scrape unless I put boards in front of the ramps to get it up just a hair. No big deal, just kept two 8" x 1.5" plywood squares in the garage.
Because the factory fitted plug is different to the one you then fit at first oil change. This has a removable crush washer where as the factory one does not, it is a solid washer that is retained on the plug.

Is this a Volks thing? Never had this experience with any of the previous vehicles I've purchased new.
Yeah, a lot of VWs have a plastic pan with a plastic plug, but OP's looks like it's steel?
