Uh yea, thermal management is a big deal with high energy laser systems.
That's a big pod in the picture behind the Boeing team. I wonder how much drag will be induced and how much shorter a range will be with the extra drag and additional weight.
When I was at Being we experimented with exothermic gas lasers but the extra weight of the gas containers and thermal management of the laser proved to be problematic.

Manned Fighters as we know them are rapidly becoming obsolete. Don't need to be a military genius to see it. And now its pretty apparent that Russia is no threat to the U.S. and China is not battle tested in anything.
Pod mounted to an air frame is no longer stealth...
