The Fiancee have been "casually" house shopping for a couple years... went to see one the other day, both liked it..
still need to get my nephew in to inspect it (For Free!), but today we filled out mortgage pre-approval application. the house is listed for $170k, we'll likely be putting 70 down, loan for 100. they said, if we need to go up, we're approved up to $300k

this would be a first home purchase purchase for both of us, and Finding a house is the only thing holding us back from getting hitched. (don't want to get married and still live with parents.) the biggest purchase either of us as made until now is around $10k for a car.

Congrats!!!

Congrats and start small. Don't fall into the bank's trap that you are pre-approved for whatever amount. It's their incentive for people to go way over their realistic budgets.
I'm already beyond my comfort zone at $170k!
I'd prefer to stay under $150...
Heck, I'd be comfortable buying a Trailer in the park near our work.... They have several new ones around $50k, with lot rent around $500/mo. We could pay cash for a new trailer. But ... Her Mom grew up in Tornado Alley, and drilled in the need for a storm shelter, which a trailer def does not have.

And you know what they say... Happy wife, Happy Life...and I'd like to keep her that way.

I would post the link to the listing, but on the chance we get it, I don't need y'all knowing my address.

If you're getting married, you need a proper house. Trust me, I've been at it for over 20 years now and women want comfort and security.

I saw the subject line and wondered what "adulting" is and imagined it might be locking yourself in a room with Cheetos, Mountain Dew, and a computer. Glad it turned out to be something different than that.

I would feel bad about my dad pulling 100K out of his 401K for me if I was considering myself an “ADULT”.

Now if he had 3 MIL in there I would probably take the dough, 500k would be a no.

2 things...
  1. Remember, you don't buy a house, you buy the neighborhood. Location, location, location.
  2. Not my business, but perhaps accept less from him and then match your father's incredible gift. My folks offered me help and I told them no. It was my responsibility.
Good luck and have fun with it.
