My first LEGAL drag race was @ LACR in Palmdale,Ca around 1990. Was in my 340 Duster.
Our Illegal drag races were on a empty 2 lane with no side streets out in the desert. Was much safer than the Boneheads today racing on the FWY. We even had an electric X-Mas tree to start us. I was 16 when I was racing there.
Had a Toyota pickup with a built 20R Toyota enging that used to eat 5.0L Mustangs and 350 Camaro's up and spit them put.

This year, brought my son to an 1/8 mile track. Pro Mod's running 4sec/185MPH runs is amazing to behold ( and listen to ).

1990, at Julesburg Dragway, in a rusty, 2-ton Grand Prix. Did a best of 15.7 at 91 with 2.93 gears, elevation around 3500 feet.

Pretty decient considerin the gears and elevation. The best my 340 Duster did with 3.55 gears was 14.77

Mine was also at LACR in Palmdale in about 1988 or so. 71 nova with a 4 speed and I was terrible at launching it! I think it ran in the 15.80 range if I remember right.
well i guess its time to tell you when my first drag race was. 1955 great bend kansas the first NHRA nationals. at that time the drive trains was very week, and a lot of times they would do a rolling start.

I started racing Stock Eliminator in October 2008. My first race was at Noble, OK. Won my first round when my opponent went red. It got tough from there on out.
I won my first race this year. I won the Summer Nationals at Topeka in Stock Eliminator. It was a huge rush.

Around 1986 on my 1981 GPz550 at the most ghetto 1/8th mile track ever. Yello Belly in Grand Prairie.
It didn't have a Christmas Tree. They had traffic signals hanging above the track. You couldn't see your time or get a time slip. The announcer called out your time over the P.A.
There is a dip at the end of the track. I sat up at while coasting down at the end of the track, took my left hand off the bar, and looked back to see where the car I was racing was. The unexpected dip got me into a mini-tank slapper.
First time I raced in an actual sanctioned race at a real track? Bracket racing at Texas Motorplex around 1989 on my ZX600C Ninja. I was doing real well with my dial in time (12.0) and then I lined up against an old '70s Honda CL350 Scrambler. His light went green and I'm still at the top yellow. It seems like he was at half track before I left. I busted out. Badly. Something about being that far behind wrecks my consistancy

That would be 1969. I'll never forget the thrill of driving my friend's super hot all aluminum 396 Vette down the strip at Sunshine Speedway!

1999 In a mechanically methanol injected 427 Chevy powered 1932 Austin Bantam altered. Raced 1/8 mile. Don't remember the MPH, the the times were in the mid 5.30's. Car was so simple to race. Had an RPM activated electric shift solenoid so you just mashed the gas and went.
However my first illegal drag race was earlier that year in my new to me 1965 Ford Galaxie with a 390 and automatic.

yep i LOVE drag racing. hearing about others racing is great, i realy love it.
on my first post i said what i wanted to say i said wrong. i ment to say " when and where was the first national NHRA drag race?" answer 1955 in Greatbend Kansas. i was there. and the next year same city, but was AHRA. i was there to.
