My soon to be wife picked up a nail in her tire today and apparently drove on it for a little while. The nail it totally repairable but, I'm not sure how far she drive on a low tire because she didn't notice the car driving funny. That makes me a little worried because when she stopped the tire was very hot and I'm afraid the inside of the tire is trashed and will need to be replaced. Also, the Firestone FT 140 tires that came OEM on her 1 year old civic seem to be discontinued ...¡ and I don't really want a mismatched tire on her newer car.

If that's the case then nothing we can do except get a tire that's is close to the others and live with it. Just venting a little bit and also surprised that it looks like that tire is discontinued.

tirerack seems to have some.. what size is it?

Also if they are considerably worn you might need to purchase a pair so you have a matched axle.

for example: I wouldn't one tire with 11/32 and another with 6/32 on the same axle

When tires are driven on low andget hot ...probably powdery on the inside and trashed.

That's the other kicker is that these tires wear like iron and still have almost full tread depth.
I am going to make a few phone calls today and see if I can round one up

Seems like a few places online are still carrying that tire. No longer available on the firestone website

Tire shops rarely do a tire repair if anything is unsafe. To be cautious, maybe you could take over driving the car for a bit. If the tire is damaged it will have some noise or uncertainty feeling to it, if the belts are separating.

If you just want to play it safe and replace 2, I respect that, shop around. A really good tire shop will shop around for you.

I made a few phone calls today and not one chain tire shop has this tire in stock and some of the people I talked to didn't even know this tire ever existed. To my surprise I called the local Honda dealer, spoke to a guy in service, he right away knew exactly what tire I was looking for and said, yes, we have it in stock right now.
I sent my fiancée to the dealer that we normally deal with when needed and the inside of the tire was destroyed like I assumed and the tire was replaced with the exact same Firestone tire.

Crisis avoided
