I tried to do a search but I found it difficult to sort through it all.
There has been a rash of the filters that seem to have bad rubber seals. A few of mine has had some oil leaks from around the seal.
The filters are made by Champion Laboratory a UCI company. I don't know anything about the company.
What has been everyone else's experiences with them?

isnt that the same company that makes puro filters. I thought they were a good choice. Maybe some squeeked by the half asleep quality control guy.

Champ Labs, a visit to AutoZone to look at STP filters will give you fair look from the outside at Firestone filters. Some will be ecore, some mostly smaller filters will be classic style.

Google search this: firestone oil filters site:bobistheoilguy.com. Also take it to the images tab.

May be old stock - I had a wix 51356 that leaked at the base gasket - seemed dried up and it crept out of its keepers when tightened - even though I pre oiled it well - as is the practice.. AFAIK CHamp makes Royal Purple, Delco, STP, Lee, Mobil 1, OEM for various AP store brands etc.

For a few months there at least 50% of all the oil changes I did along with my co-workers we all noticed the leaks. There wasn't enough of a leak to cause any harm. Engine level was fine and it never coated the whole can or anything.
Not sure what "E-core" is suppose to mean. However, I change my oil right at the 3K mark and never more than 3500. I'm old sckool like that, LOL!
I have used plenty of STP cans in the past and never noticed a leak. As well as the OCOD.

I went to Firestone twice for an oil change. I figured $20 for some Kendall syn-blend would be a good deal. I noticed they use a plain white oil filter there. Which isn't too reassuring. So about 2k miles ago I went to the local Ford dealer for my last oil change with my Toyota Matrix. Received Motorcraft syn-blend and a motorcraft oil filter. Two quality products in my book, the oil and the oil filter. I confirmed with the dealer on the phone that they use the MC oil. Car seems to run even smoother than before.

Normal price they charge is $25 but another dealer had an online coupon for $20 that they honored. Sure beats paying $36 at the Toyo dealer.

There is a few filters that are in plain white boxes. The all come from the same source, "champion Lab". Does the Matrix you drive have the cartage style that some corolla's and Prius have?

I recall from the oil filter tests that Champion high end are great, but to avoid their low end filters.

Purolator Classic, PureOne, Bosch & Motorcraft (both made by Purolator), WIX, Napa are usually all good quality filters at a very reasonable price.
