Finally! I'm trying Auto-RX (4.0L Jeep)

Well, after much talk and debate, I purchased a bottle of ARX last night for my Jeep. It has 96,600 miles on it, with the last 15K on synthetic. Before the switch to syn, the oil pan gasket was changed and the whole bottom end of the engine was cleaned. I expect most of the cleaning to occur around the rings and on the top end of the engine... maybe it will decrease the ever popular 4.0L valve noise.

Background: This Jeep is driven primarily highway. I found the records to my Jeep the other day and it had 62K miles when I bought it June 2003. I drive about 500 miles around town when I'm at school but the rest is all highway mileage. I'm currently using Mobil 1 5w40. After this ARX, I'll be using Scheffers S7000 15w40 for 2 OCIs, then probably back to Mobil 1.

I'm hoping for the best and I can't wait to try it.

I'm on the 2nd final rinse with my wifes 96 Cherokee (150K miles) and honestly don't see much of a difference. Maybe just a tiny bit quieter. However, I knew the engine was clean when I started. I simply wanted the peace of mind that Auto RX offers. Besides-I've had amazing results with Auto RX on vehicles (and farm equipment) that was in less than ideal condition.

I'm doing it mainly for the peace of mind as well. I don't know the maintainence of the ZJ for the first 62K miles so if I notice a big difference, then maybe it is doing some good.

What oil will you use for the clean and rinse?

Most likely I'll use Mobil Clean 5000. If worst comes to worst and I can't go home to change the oil, I'll have the Wal-mart in Baton Rouge and have them change it with SuperTech.

I actually have 2000 miles (well.. 1995 miles left in this OCI... gotta love that service reminder) so I might just add it to the M1 but the idea of switching to clean oil to have the ARX clean isn't a bad idea. It has been a long time since I changed it. I changed it 5 months ago.

Yeah, I know what you mean about the clean oil. I couldn't get myself to put the AutoRx into dirty oil, either.

And Supertech is so cheap....relatively speaking.

Please use an oil to rinse that is non synthetic (no esters) your results will be there.Synthetic esters polarize oil to metal thats a good thing , if your NOT trying to rinse liquified contaminants off of oil lubricated rotating parts.Go to any oil you like after your done Auto-Rx Application.

If you're an oil-psycho like me

, then I strongly recommend using an oil that you feel is a good quality rinse oil, such as (in my case) Chevron Supreme, Havoline, etc. Otherwise, you'll fret about running crappy oil in your engine, even though it's just for a short time. That's what I did, and I had to dump it out and put in Chevron. This is simply a peace-of-mind suggestion if you are an oil-psycho like me

I have trust in all the oils that I see on the shelfs at Walmart, as long as they are SL/SM rated. I just bought the Mobil Clean 5000 today. I have put on almost 900 miles since i posted this so I have to change the oil first (not like I mind).

I got the Mobil Clean 5000 after seeing the difference in responce on my friend's 4.2L V6 F150 and that thing needs all the power help in the world. He ran Valvoline 5w30 for 1000 miles and was unhappy. The next day, he switched over per my advice and he says he hasn't looked back. The truck is much better now.
