Wife convinced me to get a new zero turn mower today Ariens 60" . Lowe's has 11% rebate in form of gift card and buy using my Lowe's card saved another 5% . So she is happy and now I will have more time to do more things that she can dream up .

My ZTR lets me cut @2.5 acres in about an hour. It makes yard work almost pleasurable.

Yes, but what's your quality of cut at that breakneck speed?

You are the first person I ever heard who refers to 8 mph as a "breakneck speed"- even for a mower. Regardless, my yard looks fine to me, and I have more time for doing things I actually enjoy.

Exactly and what most people don't understand tip speed.

Your standards must be low, or maybe you have an open field instead of a lawn. My experience is with a Wright 52 inch ZTR.

Good for you much more to life than mowing lawn I give it a 1hr job if any longer I get bigger mower. My zturn has add hrs to my social life or what I really enjoy doing.

I cut my acre of lawn in around 1.5 hrs, using a 28" dual-blade push-mower.

I considered something larger and faster, but this method provides a good chunk of exercise for me every week to ten days!

Exactly! My late father loved working in the yard and spent 3-4 days after work cutting the grass with a professional walk-behind mower and grass catcher. Not me; I want the lawn to look nice but I have a life outside of landscaping.

I was spending about 10 hours a week , thats 2 cuts , with my 48inch lawn tractor . My grass grows very fast , good soil I guess . I'm hoping I can shave some decent time off that . I know the saddle in this zero turn is 20x more comfortable than the tractor do that's s plus .

Ariens is a good choice. Their snowblowers are the best, and mowers good. Wish my 42 inch Toro was an Ariens, lol. But couldn't justify the price difference.

I would bet atleast 10k steps per mowing.

Why do OPE always say 10w30 or 40 ? What's the premise behind the 10w , what's gained ? Why not 5w or 0w , I have a heck of a stock of Castrol 0w40 and I'm real tempted to use that in the mower . The manual doesn't even mention that synthetic is suggested. My new generac generator states that synthetic is needed .

2.5 acres @ 1hr...is smokin fast you must have a very level area...or your ztr has a suspension system but I doubt with the lowes ariens version.

What type of OPE do you have? I have a Kawasaki FS600V, a Honda GCV190, a Honda GC160, and a Tecumseh Snow King and they all either recommend 5w30 or list it as an alternative to 10w30.

This right there, is why you purchase quality equipment of sufficient power.

NOTE: Quality equipment is a massive timesaver. It's really hard to explain why a commercial 30cc trimmer is superior to a 21 or 25cc trimmer (all other things being equal)

Sure, the little one can scream at high RPM and will produce enough power for the job. But when you have a big yard, the bigger trimmer is far faster and easier to deal with. Just like a good zero turn mower. Makes bigger jobs a pleasure, not a chore.

Exactly! I almost always buy commercial grade tools and OPE. Commercial quality equipment usually does a better job in a shorter time and also lasts considerably longer than consumer grade products.

Air cooled engines run hot, very hot. Experience shows that oil temps can reach 250°+
in August after an hour of mowing/running. Conventional oil starts breaking down at that temp.
No so much of a problem if using synthetic oil.
Many use 15w40 for exactly that reason.

My 2¢
