OK Terry, Mola, another chemist...tell me what I am not understanding here...this does not say Grp III to me

Pscholte, I'm not a chemist, either, but this is how the CAS numbers translate:

CAS 68037-01-04 is PAO.

CAS 64742-54-7 is Grp III (can also be II+).

CAS 68649-12-7 is PAO.

CAS 64741-88-4 is Grp I solvent refined base oil.

CAS 92062-09-4 is a slack wax Grp III.


Now the Grp I base oil is probably only in the the higher viscosity grades as an additive for solvency with the PAO's.

What's interesting is that both BP(under the Durasyn brand) and ChevronPhillips Chemical supply a PAO from the CAS 68037-01-04 process.

TNX for the info...I still don't understand the way it is worded, "Synthetic hydrocarbons may contain one or more of the following: [CASRN 68037-01-4, 64742-54-7, 68649-12-7, 64741-88-4, 92062-09-4]." Are they saying this is a syn base with the Grp I, II+, III mixed in...in other words how can something described as "synthetic hydrocarbons" themselves contain something that is not synthetic...it would make since if it said "Synthetic hdrocarbons may be blended with...."
