So I currently use the middle of the road FilterMag (300lb pull i think) on my oil filter for my 1999 Wrangler with a 4.0. I recently picked up some oil at WalMart along with a filter for my next change and I decided to try the Fram ExtendedGuard filter for the first time. Looks like a pretty solid filter. I haven't changed the oil and filter yet, but after looking at the Fram box and noticing the media has a metal screen surrounding it, I'm wondering if the filter mag will affect it. Do you guys think the FilterMag will distort of affect the filtering capability of the Fram due to the metal screen around the media?

I would be more worried about running the FRAM filter...

j/k

The Fram will be fine with the filtermag...

Anyone have suggestions for a filter magnet that will work with a Volvo XC70 filter cartridge housing? It's plastic, and installs vertically, hole pointing upward.

I want a magnet design that will cling to the housing easily and will not slide off while I'm driving.

I'm looking at this model on ebay right now, but I'd like stronger magnets like in the FilterMag.

That still might be an issue as it relies on the magnets for holding power.

Any strong magnet and a little duct tape would work to hold em on. Or a large wide rubber band.

Many people use hard drive magnets.

Yep, I've bought some other magnets, but they won't fit the housing or simply cannot cling to the plastic. :D

I wanted to put one magnet inside the housing and one on the outside and have them hold each other in place, but there's no room inside.

In your case, it might be easier to run a super strong magnetic drain plug. They catch quite a bit of magnetic crud not caught by the filter.
