Long story short. I have very dry, scaly, itchy skin on my lower legs. I am 59 years old and have had thus affliction for more years than I can remember. I use a moisturizing soap but it barely helps. I have been doing a little reading on filtered shower heads that may help my situation. Yet my largest fear is that the water pressure will be affected. I love high pressure showers. Does anyone have first hand knowledge with this type of shower head? If yes is there a specific one that I should be buying? I appreciate any info that is on topic. Thanks

Don

I think the ultimate solution after a water hardness test is a water softener. I used to live in a house with very hard public water, but it was a rental so I couldn't add a softener. My skin would be raw by winters end. Current house has VERY hard well water, but with a softener and dry skin in the winter no longer exist. I know this is a costly addition, but your plumbing and appliances would also benefit.

What is your drinking thing and eating thing, do you smoke or have you been around anyone that smoked? I know you have started this thread with your question, I know this board frowns on AL aka Chat GPT, that is the best place to ask your question! This is a Motor Oil Forum, and you are kind of going into the Medical Advice thing here, which does kind of need a doctor's opinion, of course the doctor on here kind of mentions a certain weight oil. I think he may not be the type of doctor you need.

Maybe you need to change YOUR oil. Essential fatty acid deficiency?
Omega 3s are a common deficiency and can greatly improve dry skin.
Just throwing something out there.

I had a similar problem with my lower legs. I now apply a very thin layer of Vaseline to my legs after drying off. It solved my problem. Try it for a week and see what happens.

I have the same issue and I switched to Aveno body wash and it did help with the dry skin in the winter months alot....

There is no such thing as a “filter” that removes hardness. At least not a mechanical filter, if it does reduce the hardness then it’s an ion exchange resin which will work for a while until it becomes saturated. Depending on how hard your water is, this may not last very long.

Where have you read that water hardness causes the problem you’re having?

filtered showerheads are a joke.

look at brita pitchers for a similar type of filter.
they are much bigger--- but only good for 100gallons and don't remove any hardness.

I have similar skin problems from october to april.

I use the nivea in shower lotion,

use the coolest water that feels ok I go for barely warm.

Some sort of sensitive skin bodywash.. currently aveeno.. no fragrances etc.

If its a really bad flare up I have some RX Cream mainly for my shins.
