Have a feeling I'm about to ask a dumb question...but hey, I'm dumb.

I've always used Purolator oil filters and years ago when they introduced the PureOne I moved to that. Now I'm seeing the Purolator has a "synthetic" filter that's designed to be used with synthetic oil.

I'll be using 0w-20 synthetic (probably M1) in my new Tacoma and just assumed I would run the PureOne filter. Other than a syn-blend HM in my old '86 B2000, I've never used a syn oil.

I'll be following the factory recommended OCI of 5K or 6M. Do I really need to spend the extra money on a syn filter?

No. A pure one will do just fine. But if you want to go right ahead.

You know there is an oil filter section, right?

Wow....um...I used the search feature and poked around a bit, but I didn't think to look for an actual filter section. Should have scrolled down a little further...sorry.

Mods...please fell free to move this to the proper section.

Pure One will do you fine.

If you wait until February and have a Napa nearby, check out their filter sale, you can buy a Napa Gold (equivalent of Pure One) for around four dollars.

Napa gold is equivalent to wix. Same maker. Very high quality. Wether or not it performs like a pure one I dont know, but they are not the same

Thanks fellas. I felt certain that the P1 would be fine...but just needed some reassurance.

Ha. I use Pureones in my Tacoma and haven't had any issues. Is yours the 4-cyl?

The M1 will serve you well, quality oil,the Puro syn filter is also very good but probably not worth the $ for that short of interval, after warranty is up id run that combo out considerably longer with used oil analysis.

re : Napa Gold

touche.

Not saying it was the same filter, but it performs pretty well, much around the same level that P1's do. Don't wanna split hairs, but it's not like I'm comparing Napa Silver and P1. Those are DEFINITELY different.

I have used many differant filters including M1, but for the last two years I am using MC filters. Evem Mobil says no special filters are required for their EP(15K) oils. As long as your engine is clean your fine with Purolator. The oil is far more important than the filter.

So what you're saying is, "If you've held one OCOD, you've held them all"?

I kid, I kid...
