Filtech filter with a lot of debris on the inside. I do not remember which car I took this off: it could have been my son's 2015 Honda Accord V6, or my wife's old 2004 Saturn Vue 3.5- they take the same filter. It sat in my drain pan for like 6 months before I remembered to cut it open. The amount of crud in the filter bothered me: if it was my son's car, it was the factory filter with 5k miles on OCI, very first filter change. If the Vue, then it was 165k miles on engine, maybe 8k on oil and filter. In both cases the engines run perfectly, and the oil that came out looked fine. The filter sat open end down in the pan, so it was not like stuff dropped into it. I am probably worried about nothing, but ....

The amount of debris on the inside of the can worries me. The anti drainback valve was perfect, and the bypass valve was a unique design I have not seen before.
The filters are cut open with a Longacre tool, so the crude was not from the cutting operation. I went back and checked it, and its a sludgy coating. I have no idea what the factory fill on the 2015 Honda was, but I put Pennzoil Ultra Platinum in it. The Vue has almost always had Amsoil, and the Used Oil Analysis always comes back perfect.

The Vue was def not neglected: it got regular oil changes and filters per the OLM, and a premium synthetic. Next time I will dissect either filter in a more timely manner and keep exact track of which filter is on which car.

Definitely a Honda A01 by Filtech. Same construction as the from the 'factory' A01 I posted here in December.

Compared to the one I removed and dissected, the topic filter appears to have a lot of grit in the can. I drained the filter based down in a funnel not long after removal. Then cut it open not too long after that and the inside of can looked nothing like the one shown. Not sure how/how long the filter was stored before cutting, which could make a difference in the can appearance imo.

While I don't like the appearance of the grit/crud on the can, 'I' can't place definitive blame on the filter for that. To many variables, but in any case I doubt the filter is responsible for the can appearance. Usually the can appearance is more an indication of what is going on in the engine or the service interval imo. I'd be very surprised (and a bit concerned) if this came off the new Accord. Less so off the Saturn, but would still pay attention next time.

In the future I'd immediately drain the filter thread/base end down and cut it open not long after to inspect. My .02

Been a long time, but I remember the first oil filter from the factory being black. So probably the Vue. Remembering my 2008 Accord.

I use the A01 exclusively on my '05 with Maxlife, I should get in there and see what one looks like now that I've eclipsed 6-figure mileage.

Does the '15 Accord have the VCM? I think it does from what I remember.
