Fighting a losing battle

I think the "over detailers" need a different OCD hobby, maybe woodworking or photography. I enjoy a nice clean shiny car but some people are certainly freaks. OEM paint is only so good.

I wonder how much troubleshooting and diagnosis is involved in detailing? As far as mechanics go, it's one thing to replace a part...quite another to know what part needs replacing. "Shotgun troubleshooting" just increases the bill.

This thread has reached that point, AU.
Detailers are making some big bux, no denying. it, but arguing over it here is pointless.

I think over-detailing is a sickness. I do however keep my cars nice and clean. When a car has good wax on it, a simple hose-off can do wonders. If I have to drive a clean car in rain, I'll hose the dirt off at home before it dries into concrete...it works well. I like to think I do the "right amount" of detailing, maybe 3-4 waxes a year. Best advice I heard is to aquire wax coats during summer and leave it on through winter, then strip if off in Spring and start new. I won't use drive-thru car washes. Don't use power buffers and for G-d's sake, I use sufficient water and soap when I wash. I'm seen new Mercedes, black usually, that look like the owner did a "dry wash". Grr.
