Fetus Protection

It may sound like a lunacy and it might not be our most urgent priority, but I believe that law is just and needed.
I loved my daughter the moment I found out my wife was pregnant....I dreamt about her and always wondered what she would look like. I had never met her.....the day I finally did, I melted like ice cream under the hot Texas sun.....even though I was somewhat hypnotized after a 14 hour flight trip from SW Asia.

Had something happened to my unborn baby, I would have cried and mourn as she was my wife or any other well know family member. I believe the Laci Peterson Law should supported and enforced and the first one to face it should be Scott Peterson.

I always found it odd that the Republicans are dead set against abortion but have less interest in providing welfare to moms having too many children than the Democrats.

I find it oximoronic that those who oppose abortion favor the death penalty, and those who oppose the death penalty favor abortion rights.

True:

I guess it gets back to the question of: "Is a person that has an abortion a 'baby' killer' " (ie. "Is there a murder??")

Keith, you are right, (boy that hurt), but the Republican Party plays to the anti-abortionists the same way it plays to the anti-gay group even though many gays vote for and believe in the Republican Party. The politics of division is a destructive force in this country. I can understand the reasoning behind the Fetus Protection Bill and could support it if I didn't think it was one more step to establishing rights for the unborn that would end up banning abortion for everybody.

Another way of looking at it (in my eyes at least) is that Artificial Insemination (unless paid for in personal CASH, and not by a health insurance fund/government) should be banned, until each and every one of the kids that need adopting is adopted.

We had a huge dilema when we found out that we were going to be parents (unless we intervened of course).

My sister has Spina Bifida, and despite her prognosis of 2 weeks, has reached 34 years old, with a career, and is eternally grateful that she was bron, and my parents did everything that they could to prolong her life (doctors advocated a zero calory diet when she was born). My (maternal) cousin also had spina bifida, and died with no intervention at 3 weeks.

We had to decide on the tests that we took, and the actions that we would take if they were not good. We struggled, and could not decide on what we would do....if.

Fortunately they were good, and we have the most wonderful human being in existance resident in our lives.

We're thinking about testing our luck once again. We are having great difficulty working out what is right, and not right.

BTW, chances are that 4 people on this board have Spina Bifida. At least 3 of them don't know it.

Abortion after a postive test would have none of them here, and possibly an extra one or two.

Labman said it right,"I feel very strongly abortion is wrong, but the solution is changing peoples hearts, not our laws."

My take on it is that, although the thought of something like the life of one of my beautiful children being snuffed out with less hassle than it is to get a drivers license is shameful and sad, I don't have the right to inhibit that action UNLESS I'M WILLING TO RAISE THAT CHILD.

Most Pro-lifers talk the talk ..but few walk the walk. Their goals appear to be to have that child born ..and then they conveniently turn into Pontius Pilate and wash their hands of any responsibility.

I think I'm going to just save this post to notepad and then shamelessly pladgerize it in every abortion thread that I participate in on the net. Brilliant, and mirroring my own feelings.

Well, let me back that up with some "balance". I DO know some pro-life people who do, somewhat, walk the walk.

One pro-life Jackie Kennedy wannabe funded and operated a place called "Mom's House" a daycare facility to allow teenage mothers the oportunity to finish highschool and if need be ..continue on to college. These were not poor single mothers (who typically don't seek abortions). She may not have solved the world's problems with abortion ..but she put her soul and money where her mouth was instead of just pointing fingers of anger and condemnation.

I tend to see many prolife advocates as inflicting some type of punishment upon those who do not want a pregnancy. It appears to be something like "Don't fornicate like a iniquitous sinner and this won't happen!" ..or "You made your shameful bed ..now I'm gonna make sure that you sleep in it!! These same people resist sex education and contraception (sometimes even for married couples). That is, they KNOW that unwanted pregnacies WILL occur ..yet want people to raise unwanted children. This tends to bely the alleged "Christian" origins of this effort. Jesus never advocated this type of action against anyone. There is also a tendancy for people to inflict influence upon others that they are totally exempt from. Most prolife members, at least the most vocal, would never be in a situation that would make such an action desirable.

George Carlin had a comment that I won't repeat here on the forum.

To end abortion ..you have to make people not want one. Make it the unnecessary alternative.
