I picked up one for our Expedition with the 8.8" rear end. If I use this gasket, is it just a matter of scraping the old "gasket" material off, & slapping this new FelPro gasket on?

I may replace the gear lube this afternoon.

should be... I always just use RTV on my truck's rear end.. I let it sit for the hour before I fill it up.. no leaks ever.

I put a Ford Racing 8.8 gasket on my Ranger recently. I just cleaned all the old gasket material off the pumpkin. I put a new diff cover on so it was already clean.

I haven't had any leaks, and it's been a few weeks now.

You just don't want to over tighten the bolts if your using a gasket instead of RTV.

I never had luck with RTV and only use formed gaskets. The bit of gear oil seeping at the bottom would interfere with the RTV and result in a leak.
