I have a couple for cars.
Car: Jaguar X-Type after the OEM Continental's wore out I replaced them with Michelin.. I want to say Primacy's (this was quite a while ago). They were expensive but it was like driving a different car, even if the snow I never lost traction with the AWD with those tires.
Also car: Potenza RE960AS Pole Position - On the 2002 Grand Prix GTP I had for a while. They were fantastic.
Haven't had to do tires on the Sorento yet, but I'm not thrilled with the OEM Kumho's. Can't wait until they wear out so I can put something better on it.

For wear, handling and snow performance, I liked the Michelin MXL on one of our old Civics and I like the Primacy on our '99 Accord.
Honorable mention for decent tires we've had in the past would go to the Michelin XZX, General Altimax and Goodyear Aquatread.

Truck: Michelin LTX M/S - best tire I have ever used in any vehicle.
Car: Bridgestone Potenza Grid 019 - Loud but hug the road in dry and wet pavement.

Car: Tossup between the Michelin PS2 and the Pilot Super Sport. Both made my R car a greater pleasure to drive. The PS2s lasted maybe 22k miles and the PSS's are on track to come in at just under 30k wear, couldn't be happier with wear numbers like that.
Bridgestone Turanza Serenity. Comfortable and quiet.

For the car, kumho V710 for autocross, very grippy with a little heat.
New snow tires are always fun, and the only brand I've ever bought is Goodyear Nordic which seem to have great grip on snow, not so great on ice, but that's to be expected for studable tires.
Also I'm glad I got Ag tires on my tractor instead of industrial tires, the extra grip in the dirt of the Ag tires has been very useful.

In 1992, I put a set of Goodyear Eagle GT +4 (215/65R15) on my 1985 Trans-Am. They were such a dramatic improvement over the Nitto tires that were on it that I remember them 20 years later. Smoother, better steering response, far better wet and dry grip...
Good tires are worth the extra $$.

I haven't had a car for so long any tire I mention for that would be so long out of production it would be irrelevant if I could even remembner what I used. I will say when I did have cars if they were new I got Michelins. For my Muscle Cars I got BF Gooodrich. If it was a beater I got whatever was cheapest.
I will list my favorite light truck/suv class tires however as that will be more accurate( last 15-20 years...

All Purpose Tread - this is a class that I don't really think tire tire makers offer anymore. However, back in the late 90's I got some Sears only Bridgestones that I absolutely loved. They were the Birdgestone Dueler APT's. Sort of in between AS and AT tread. Man were they excellent tires.

Kuhmo 711s on a 1996 Sunfire GT. They didn't make the 205/55/16 that was the standard size on the GT model, so I had to go with 225/50/16. The tire guy really struggled to get them on the 6" wide rims!
Not that the Sunfire was a performance car, but they did make a difference over the GY RS-A garbage that came on the car originally. Drove on them out to Vegas and back through CO in late May and encountered snow. That was exciting! Drove them 3 years in all 4 seasons in WI, back when I was young and stupid.

Times a dozen! Every single time I have purchased lower grade tires to save a buck I have regretted it. Most of them start out strong and fade quickly, Toyos, Hankook, Nittos, etc.
Never again.

I purchased a set of these from the TireRack in 16" for my Civic for the stock wheels. They were initially very quiet and fairly sticky, but they wore out in less than 13K miles.
I've had Continentals on 2 other cars (BMW and Mercedes). Never had much luck with them.

I put a set of Michelin Primacy MXM4 on my boss's 2008 Passat. Best performance touring tires that I have ever used. Great grip, long life, excellent straight-line stability.
Small truck - Firestone Destination A/T
I have found Destination A/Ts to be a good all around light truck tire. They do good on pavement and in light off roading. Great in rain and snow when they have a good amount of tread. Decent tread life for my truck...only 37K miles out of the last set, but that's a record for my truck which has done in tires as quickly as 20K miles. Was over $600 for 235/75R15s though.
Currently running Goodyear Wrangler Radials. Not good in rain, not as good as the Destinations in any other way but price, but for $390 for a set of four installed out the door, I can't complain at all. At the rate they are wearing, they might last longer than I want them to.
