I replaced a front diff/ CV shaft seal on my Blazer last weekend. I noticed a few drips here and there and sure enough, it was 1/2 quart low when I checked yesterday. While I was under the truck taking a closer look, I noticed the seal's lip had a slight crease and was folded outward. About 1/4" wide or so.

How could this have happened? Surely I would have noticed this before installation. I've replaced many seals and have never ran into this. While I normally use OE, I went with AZ's house brand. It's my understanding that they're made by National and are of decent quality. Perhaps others can chime in?

On a side note, Supertech 80w90 gear oil seems to be a well rounded oil at a dang good price. This was my first time buying any since the ST bottle/ brand revamp. GL-5, suitable for FILLING LSD's (used to be top offs before IIRC) and manual gearboxes with yellow metals.

Could you make it right with a pick, Something small diameter and dull? Maybe a feeler gauge blade? I'd invest some time into a fix.

You know, I actually thought about that. I'll try it and report back.

I had two National brand ones from Oreilly's leak on my Liberty....the first time I thought I messed it up, so I did it again and used a MAC seal driver to seat it properly. Still leaked. Took it to a shop and they used a Mopar one....so far 2 years 40,000 miles later it's been fine.

i never had problems with national seals on my honda axles. i tap them in flush and flat--very easy to be tilted. but when i bought it at o'reilly, the guy was unable to cross-reference it so i had to do that myself and give him the national part number smh
