Had a Rolls on my rack yesterday. Do the people that buy fancy cars think they are superior beings compared to the rest of us?

Or do they enjoy waiting on parts etc?

In my world I see zero reason to buy/ own something like this when a jeep,Toyota etc does what I need without the fear of it breaking down and parts might be weeks or more away.

And I don't think lesser of someone because they drive a beater.

Different world. No doubt some are living past their means, unable to deal with expected repairs. But some can scoff at repairs so... [but they are unlikely to be coming to your area, instead when they have a flat tire they just trade in]

Some people just don't think. Some don't think through decisions, and some just don't think all the way through. A good deal just live for the moment and hope for the best. And no doubt some portion do buy these cars in hopes of impressing someone.

But for those who can afford it, why not? If you make $1M/yr why drive a clapped out Corolla--unless if you really want to drive a clapped out Corolla, why not enjoy your money (after saving a bit and all that). The goal of life is (hopefully) not to die with the most money or possessions.

But you think lesser of someone because they choose to drive a Rolls? I have no problem with people buying what they want with their money.

Like you I daily an 02 Wrangler, basically own & maintain an 02 Xterra, and do long range traveling with the 21 Sierra HD and trailer.

Let's ask some of the guys here who drive the fancy cars - hey guys, do you drive that fancy stuff to show me up or because you enjoy and can afford and appreciate nice things???

Many here would be SHOCKED at what my mountain bike cost. Didn't buy it to impress anyone, it works really well and I enjoy it.

It may just be that like that model car, can afford it, and are willing to put up with the repairs costs.

I don't think their choice says anything about them. It's their behavior and how they act that is an indicator of attitude.
Some people might say why drive a jeep with all their repair issues , when you can drive a Subaru , or a 4wd pickup.
It can go on forever.

Be glad people have these things, so you have a job repairing them.

I think it's highly variable from person to person. Some drive cars as a status symbol and to project their wealth, and others drive them because they like nicer things, respect the engineering, their dream car as a kid, etc. You really can't judge someone's intentions there without knowing them.

I know a lot of people who grew up poor, and want to show that they've made it. Most of those people are living beyond their means, but displaying their improved socio-economic status is their first priority.
I also know a lot of people who grew up poor, have actually done very well for themselves, and can't fathom wasting any of their hard earned resources on conspicuous consumption.

Case in point... My friend's father grew up on a farm in rural Indiana, got a PhD in engineering, and went on to be a Vice President at a fortune 500 company. He always dreamed of having a BMW, but instead the family had VW Rabbit and an Oldsmobile. He told me he just couldn't, in good conscience, show up at family's house back in Indiana in something fancy.

Of course, you have your folks who have been well-heeled all their lives, and may not have considered that it's possible to own something less than a Rolls...

Lots of psychology in there, I'm sure.

They have a right to own it, you have a right to scratch your head about it; but as I've accepted over the years; it is their money at the end of the day.

That being said, I always respect people with a realistic view of their purchase over fanboy types. I talked to a guy with a Jaguar years back, this was from the era when the joke (or pragmatic planning) was to own a Jaguar you needed two so you have one to drive when the other was in the shop. He belonged to a club and told me drives they took were planned with routes taking them near parts caches if needed.

I'd love to daily drive a Rolls Royce. The fit and finish, hand built and signed off V12 engine. There's nothing like it. I've sat in a couple of Bentleys and sane thing.
