Fancy cars and the people that buy them.

Had a Rolls on my rack yesterday. Do the people that buy fancy cars think they are superior beings compared to the rest of us?

Or do they enjoy waiting on parts etc?

In my world I see zero reason to buy/ own something like this when a jeep,Toyota etc does what I need without the fear of it breaking down and parts might be weeks or more away.

And I don't think lesser of someone because they drive a beater.
"In my world I see zero reason to buy/ own something like a jeep,Toyota etc." ;)

We all have different priorities when making decisions like which vehicles to own.

People do treat you differently if they know/think you have $$$. While I’m not rich by any stretch of imagination, I’ve experienced this few times.

I think it’s this “special” treatment they constantly receive from “normal” people affects their ego. Some people are not affected by it, but many are.

I’m not entirely sure if I wouldn’t succumb to being a rich snob if I actually had millions to my name and people constantly sucked up to me. It’s hard to tell IMO what I would’ve become.

I wonder how he could afford all those cars?

Btw my daily driver came from (I’ve said this before) Naples FL and had an 8 car garage. It was always dealer serviced. Home is still in the factory gps.

I took it to the dealer once in 8.5 years. I couldn’t be more different than the original owner. I bet I love the car more.

What vehicle did you buy ?

I think we need to be very careful in assuming that those who own and drive luxury cars, think of themselves as better than others.

When I bought my first Mercedes, a 2007 SL550, I was very conscious and concerned, what others may have thought about me. I didn't want anyone to think, that I thought I was cooler, or better that them, just because of the car I drove. As much as I loved driving the car, I was always a little self conscious if I was seen in it by neighbors or casual friends.

I drove my SL550, not to set myself above others, but rather because I loved driving it. I absolutely loved the beautiful materials that went into the interior, and marveled at the engineering and craftmanship. Driving it was so fun too.

While not on quite the same level as the SL550, I similarly like the beauty of the interior on my Mercedes E350. Owning these cars has had nothing to do with looking down on others, or making myself feel superior to them, in any way.

My barber has owned a lot of cool cars, including Jaguar, Mercedes, and BMW. He is one of the most down to earth guys I know.

I am sure that there are those who think that driving a cool car makes them better than others. But I would never make that blanket judgement, that everyone who drives a luxury car, looks down on those who don't.

Driving around in my area (Snottsdale, ;)) in the 5.0, I RARELY get a thumbs up because it is on the low end of the totem pole. McClarens, Lambos, Ferraris, etc. are a common site. But I was in AZ yesterday and the young guy who rang me up asked if it was mine and got a big smile on his face and complimented it. Said he wanted one again since his got totaled. I knew when I bought it, they, and their drivers, are ridiculed probably more than any other vehicle, but I don't care. I think it is the best looking current Mustang and for me, is a beast.

Yes, the 2024+ Mustangs are ugly.

There are many things that level the playing field which is why I am suspect to what is "surmised" and what is "reality." Take a youth ice hockey game. One of the parents is a partner at a big 4. That means, 1-3 mil. salary. That kind of negates some of the stuff we see here, oh, such and such a profession pays $600k, or $400k, or this and that. It's multiples. People know his home is 6 mil. well, from being invited over. Yet, for 60+ minutes, he stands just like every other parent and watches his kid play. He doesn't turn his nose up. As a matter of fact, his kid is on an AA team, not AAA. Yet, he played division 1 himself. Now, he does have a Patagonia jacket while many like myself have Columbia, so he's a snob. Point is go ahead and hate him. He really doesn't do anything to warrant it, other than he worked hard and now is a successful employee (he said he can't wait to retire and today the age is 59, unlike the old days when my buddy's dad was forced out at 57). It's just my opinion that so much is inferred that often is incorrect.

This is the 2nd one I have goofed with. The first one had a rattle in the passenger door that turned out to be the umbrella holder was loose. Yes it had umbrellas in the doors!
I recall my friend's Passat had that--she didn't use it though. It's not a bad idea, I find myself trying to quickly bring it across myself and the passenger seat to the floor. Or, if it's a compact one, I put it at my own feet but not ideal.....

Not quite the same thing between the RR and Passat.

But I do think more cars could/should have something like the Passat had. Most new cars have doors that are THICK

I don't think I surmised anything. I just said some people become rich snobs and some don't and I don't know which group I would fall into if I were in the same situation. I don't really hate anyone, not sure where you got that impression from ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

You can see similar behaviors at work, especially in the managerial positions. Some people stay normal, while others let that little bit of power they have over other people, get to their heads.

Didn’t mean to say you’re a hater.

At any rate yes, at work, more people enjoy power, than not. Power means believe it or not, being able to do what one wants in a work day. This means not going in when it’s icy. Or going to the beach on co time. Etc. many have to “show up.”

I guess back to the Rolls Royce, the fact that it’s being serviced not at the dealership to me likely means cost matters. That’s not snobby, that’s being practical…

I know a guy whose private co has a Lear 75. When he sees me, he will put his briefcase down on the sidewalk to shake my hand. I was thinking his jet is larger than that medivac that crashed. I bet others see him and think snob…it’s simply not a given. Heck when I was in HS I woulda thought I’d be like that

They WANT the inconvenience. They want to have their secretary drop them off at the foreign car mechanic during work hours to "prove" they're better than everyone else who has to work a 9-5. They WANT the drama of needing to bum a ride because "their Rolls is in the shop" because otherwise how would you know they have a Rolls?
There's an element of poison buried in that mini-rant.

Also: "It's like when Mr perfect goes and sees a dominatrix, he wants to be told no, because no one ever tells him no."

Und wo hat ihn das gelernt?

I was a little kid and my dad was trying to explain the ending of the The Gambler with James Caan...it's sorta like that. I was saying how come he's happy getting beat up at the end....

People are complex, but I just don't see reading so much into the cars they drive...
