The fan itself is beautifully made, and although I failed to find the country of origin on the packaging, I think it’s safe to assume it is made in the United States. My beef is more so with the adaptors required to mount the fan, which is why I knocked off a star.
In mid-July, I purchased this fan long with its 18” variant (106278) for two of my trucks. Flex-a-Lite requires you to use their own adaptors and spacers for warranty purposes, which I have zero issue with. I contacted their customer support team twice for clarification on what hardware was included with certain spacers, and their response was prompt and detailed.
I then purchased several adaptors and spacers to use with these fans; specifically, part numbers 106786 and 108430, both of which I received, along with 115261 and 112958, which I am still waiting on.
The expected delivery date on these items, through no fault of Summit, keeps getting pushed forward. The expected delivery date on an adaptor I purchased on 07/13 is now 12/10. An adaptor that was supposed to be delivered on 10/20 is now 12/28. Without the mounting adaptor, the fan itself is as good as a suitcase with no handle. Again, Summit is a vendor, and can only ship you a product if it is available from the manufacturer.
While Flex-a-Lite’s customer support has been prompt and fantastic for technical queries, my questions to them on product availability have gone unanswered. I understand the new craze is electric fans with brushless motors, and reckon it is safe to assume these adaptors are not sitting on a shelf somewhere. They’re probably gauging interest, since there aren’t a lot of us old school mechanical fan folks, and once a certain number of orders has been received, the adaptors will probably be manufactured. Heaven only knows when that will be, hence the date keeps getting pushed forward.
This is certainly a disappointment, that such a fine product is unusable because essential hardware remains unavailable.
