"Fabric" heat sleeve on an EGR pipe

2005 Ford Ranger 4.0l SOHC V6 and many other engines I bet.
A stainless steel pipe carries exhaust gas from the left manifold up to the EGR valve.
There's a woven fabric sleeve on this pipe where it bends near the PS reservoir. I've heard it's a heat shield.
It runs from the 2 tees for the DPFE module almost up to the EGR valve itself.
It's quite loosely fit and the fabric is all but unravelling.

Is this something to be tightened up? Is exhaust wrapping it neatly a wise thing to do?
Could wrapping it tightly possibly melt the pipe?

I understand, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."

Any experiences? Thanks

Yest is is a heat shield material. You can use a stainless zip tie on the fraying ends to attach the ends to the pipe.
Something like this will work fine.

I believe you answered your own question in the end.

If it is too far gone to repair you can get something like 1" thermo-tec header wrap to re cover it. the heat from that pipe is quite high and will heat stress any adjacent parts. stuff is available at AZ or Amazon
