I thought I would be impressed with the Ford Raptor from all of the cool ads on TV. Then I was heavily let down by the relatively cheap construction and fit/finish when I reviewed one in person. What I thought was a cool paint job was nothing more than a very cheap 50-100 sticker job that clearly visible and potentially come undone at the edge from washing. That that kind of cash, I would expect a better decal work or a paint job, which shouldn't cost anymore than a standard paint job. My personal top pick would be a full body wrap with protective film to protect the original finish. That usually cost 700 dollars for a big truck from aftermarket shop so Ford could probably do it for 500 dollars.

I would off-road lights installed as well as running lights. A full bumper guard and a 9k lbs winch should be installed. Protective rear bumper guard to cover the lights as well as some aftermarket lights with on/off switch to use when backing up in complete darkness while in the wilderness, which which what this truck is marketed for.

I like to see a diesel option with a much larger original fuel tank or a secondary tank like some older F150 XL trim. Overall, I need a 50 gallons capacity for something that I could use as an off-road vehicle. Some folks may think several jerry cans would be a cheaper alternative but I think Ford can do it at a very reasonable price if they want to. An auxiliary tank in the bed isn't an expensive or hard option to have. Many people do it anyway. I expect a off-road vehicle to have it.

I want 2 batteries instead of one. One battery is for starting and the normal applications. The other is to run the winch, accessories when the engine is off, and operate a oil pump to prime the engine with oil to eliminate cold start.

I want a interior roll-cage as standard and exterior roll-cage as optional package.

There are many more things this off-road vehicle need. It is a great truck but I can't justify all the extra money for something that has only the wheel and suspension upgrade.

I think you missed the point of the vehicle if you're complaining about the paint job not being that great "for that kind of cash".

It's not the paint job, more like lack of finish protection. I rather have something like that with finished in the same stuff Glock has.

What if they offered it with a 6 speed manual?

But in all seriousness its perfect for the area of the country it was designed for, mainly the Imperial Valley of CA.

That suspension ain't cheap. The decals is optional. It's a giant Hotwheels. Tons of beverly hillbillies will like it. That said I'd rather build my own Hotwheel toy.

Paint? What's paint? Real offroad vehicles don't have paint... they're Rhino-linered from top to bottom :-)

Actually, this is the only vehicle I would love to see in manual transmission. Although I would prefer to have clutch less manual for extended low speed driving.

Like I said, I would prefer a Glock finish and the whole body deep into some rust/corrosion protection solution. I guess when you want something done right, you have to do it yourself. Duracoat, which is a reasonable coating, can be purchased very cheap in 5 gallon bucket, the amount needed to paint the entire truck 4 coats as well as the 2 coats for the under body.

This isn't a rock crawler, or mudbogger. IT's a high speed desert racer. A production truck meant to HAUL [censored] through the deserts of the southwest.

If you actually compare the raptor to the regular f-150 you will see the difference the price gets you.

Personally i would rather add my own HID and LED off road lighting that what the factory would give you.

I definitely wouldn't mind a Raptor-R model. stripped down interior with a full dash and roll cage no insulation and a pair of race buckets and 5 point belts.

If they could fit a 40+ gallon FUEL CELL between the frame rails i wouldn't mind that either but 50 gallons is a bit much way to much weight to be hung under a half ton

I think you better do more research on the Raptor. It's more than just suspension and wheels although the suspension is the biggest part of the truck, this isn't your run of the mill FX4/Rancho TRD/Bilstein "suspension" upgrade.

For $39K it is a very good deal, if you want/need that type of vehicle.

Again, you absolutely don't understand the purpose of the vehicle.

The shocks alone on that truck make it worth the money.

If your concerned about the finish on an off road vehicle, I doubt it's going to actually be off road. Do your self a favor, and buy a stock truck and "bling it" to meet the look your after.

To those who have driven one back-to-back with a "conventional" F-150, how does the ride compare? I've read that the Raptor actually has a better on-road ride.

that's what I've heard. The shocks are softer to allow for long travel over dunes and rocks without breaking something. Like you.

No, that's not what this truck is marketed for. It is a desert racing style truck; Baja. It isn't designed to be taken down logging trails that you'd normally only embark upon with a Grizzly or a Skidder.

How many Baja trucks have a diesel?

None.

Again, not appropriate for catching air off dunes.

If this was a trail vehicle, then maybe. But again, it isn't.

I think you are quite confused as to the purpose of this truck. You sound more like you want a jacked-up XJ with a 5.9 Cummins stuffed in it towing a tanker truck with a Prius battery bank in the back to run all the electrics.
