F150 Front diff cover

My friend has a 2005 F150 XL with the 4.6L, and while off-road in a field he hooked on a rock with the front diff cover. It bent the bottom of it out enough it broke the sealant and all the gear oil has leaked out.
I have a couple covers from 8.8 rear differential, will they fit or will I need to source one specific for a front application?

Not available from Dorman,probably need to go Ford or an offroad supplier for a chrome or aluminum finned model..

If he off roads regularly get a guard that bolts in and has sliders... it will protect him next time, adds some cool factor

Straighten the bend in a vise and reinstall it

Found Ford has one for $31. Part# seems to be 2L1Z4033CA

That's some bad luck, I think the diff has to be dropped to change the cover on those. I know the cover can't be taken off with the diff installed on IFS Rangers.

And yeah, better not drive it. The front diff is always turning on those.

No, it isn't. It's not on in the transfer case and the hub lockouts are intact and work. I already fixed those a couple months ago. Bad vacuum solenoid would leak down and let them engage randomly.
I don't think it will be too bad to fix. Only thing that looks in the way of the cover is the plastic oil drain guide for the oil filter. Once that's out of the way it should just come off.

Actually, Its the same cover as I have in my garage from my crown vics.
Heres a picture of a F150 front differential.

Looking at the shape and where the two half-round cuts end up, its the exact same cover. So, that saves like $30 since I have two of them.
