I was recently told that ExxonMobil now has their own brand of diesel that uses all additives to prevent winter gelling, no kerosene. The stations are phasing it in. But in the not too distant future if you are a ExxonMobil station you have to sell only that diesel if you sell diesel. In the past the ExxonMobil stations were selling non ExxonMobil diesel as there was not one the stations could get from ExxonMobil. I remember in a ExxonMobil station in DE seeing a small sign on the diesel pumps saying the diesel was not a ExxonMobil branded diesel and thinking that was odd.
It was also explained that while the diesel might say its good to -40F it may have a cloud point of -4F. So it will start to cloud up and get thicker at -4F but not get really solid until -40F.
Quite honestly while I am learning more about diesel fuel, I would prefer to retire and move to DE and expunge this diesel & cold weather info from my brain.
