I was recently told that ExxonMobil now has their own brand of diesel that uses all additives to prevent winter gelling, no kerosene. The stations are phasing it in. But in the not too distant future if you are a ExxonMobil station you have to sell only that diesel if you sell diesel. In the past the ExxonMobil stations were selling non ExxonMobil diesel as there was not one the stations could get from ExxonMobil. I remember in a ExxonMobil station in DE seeing a small sign on the diesel pumps saying the diesel was not a ExxonMobil branded diesel and thinking that was odd.

It was also explained that while the diesel might say its good to -40F it may have a cloud point of -4F. So it will start to cloud up and get thicker at -4F but not get really solid until -40F.

Quite honestly while I am learning more about diesel fuel, I would prefer to retire and move to DE and expunge this diesel & cold weather info from my brain.

Did you get your Powerstroke figured out? It was fuel, then? I generally use BP diesel, but I try to buy it from places that sell a lot of it, and it still needs PS white bottle or Diesel 911 once in a while. XOM diesel was usually branded Esso here-I figured with a Canadian name like that, they should know how to add antigel in winter!

Sounds familiar here - depending on the retailer (and refiner in this case), some diesel sold here is nearly all additives and no blending of #1 and #2 is required. At least in normal winter temps. That product is a flint hills diesel fuel, and is usually labeled Arctic Diesel on our pumps around here.

Other places it is a blend. The good retailers will be able to tell you what they are selling. A few folks got burned by what they had in the tank not being blended quite cold enough (like the bus company that operates the transit I use daily). On the first day at -30, they had 30 plus units out of commission due to fuel problems. They would get about 3 hours out of the garage, and then shut down.

Hmm thanks for the info, it might justify their insane pricing in my area 3.29-3.59 as opposed to 2.99 for BP/Sunoco or 2.79 for no name near me. Theres a station in Secaucus that has a large sign out front saying "We sell Exxon Premium Diesel!" with premium and diesel underlined. Ive always wanted to try it, but for the 70-80 cents per gallon, I can run half a can of Redline 85 and still be 5 $ up on my golf, and 3xs that on the GL.

Well I do not need to drive to work any particular day. Waiting for warm weather.

I'll bet they are legally obliged to notify customers if it is not genuine product.
