Hi all. Long time lurker, first time poster. I have a question that I'm sure most regulars here are more knowledgeable about than myself.
Last fall, I acquired a 1984 Cadillac Sedan DeVille, V8. It has 60,000 miles on its original engine, but 10,000 or so miles ago then engine blew and was completely replaced with a Jasper reman. When I acquired that car it had been stored in a pole barn for more than three years. It was shielded from the elements but subject to dramatic temperature changes (Upstate NY)
The car never saw a winter and I didn't want to start last fall, but I needed to move it from one barn to another. So I jump started it, full it full of gasoline (no ethanol,) and due to time constraints, had the oil changed at Valvoline Instant Oil Change before driving it for around half and hour and parking it. They put in Max Synpower, full synthetic, im sure you all know.
Just two days ago I put her on the road and had her inspected. She passed with flying colors, a lot of work was done right before she went in storage. Now, this was my first time using Synthetic in anything. Normally in my buick I do Pennzoil conventional, a purolator classic, ever 3000 miles. (I know, I know, but it works for me.) Valvoline insists i change oil, even synpower, every three months of course. But I get the impression from these boards the oil is still good after sitting in storage for about six months. I just want to run it for 3000 miles before I do my customary conventional change. Am I on the safe side, or should I go ahead and drain it now?
