I got rid of my external Altec Lansing speakers and subwoofer when I replaced my HP desktop with an ASUS laptop.

The sound quality on the ASUS is barely acceptable, at best, hence my desire to go with a pair of external (but compact) speakers. No external subwoofer, however.

Advice?

I have the Logitech ones I showed you above for my Apple laptop and they sound great...

But Klipsch is very good if you are serious like DSX1 said...

Unfortunately, my budget's never been reasonable.

Otherwise, I'd only run Supertech oil, filters, and transmission fluid, not RLI, Amsoil, Ultra, Edge, or Dyson Analysis!

And in your link above, StevieC, it wanted a Canadian Postal Code before Staples would proceed to the product page. Anne Murray's postal code did not work.

That's because she only comes out at Christmas.

Or if you're really serious, you could get yourself a standalone receiver/amp and a pair of decent bookshelf speakers. $300 would probably be enough for all of that.

Off topic, but you might be able to notice I'm not an Anne Murray fan. She did one of her Christmas tours a few years back (that's all she's done for over twenty years as I recall are Christmas tours) and the local paper did a review.

The called her "more white bread than Pat Boone." He he.

I like Anne. I never liked Pat.

Admittedly Anne has a little age on her, but I like her 'cause she's got more class and personality than most of the female singers that a lot of folks believe are "all the rage."

Then again, I like Gordon Lightfoot, though the voice ain't the same after his medical issues.

My wife plays on the penny auction sites and a few months back she picked up a Logitech X-540 5.1 setup. Awesome. I wouldn't buy anything else. I'm sure the newer versions are even better. If you just want two speakers, they make an X-140 which is just a pair of speakers from the X-540 set. $42CDN at Staples?

I don't have any experience with their 2 speaker setups, but the Logitech X-240 2.1 I picked up for $45 at BBY last year is a killer deal for sound quality for the buck. I can easily imagine their 2.0 setups could be just as impressive. I say logitech.'

Edit: Though if I had the money, I'd drop it on some of those Harmon Kardon Soundsticks II sets. Mmm...
