extended advice on throttlebody./intake manifold cleaning

ok i asked you guys for help on throttle body cleaning before, and i am thankfull. i used sea foam and it was great.

well i had another thought. my car is a 4 cyl engine and of course has a 4 channel intake manifold. if i were to spray seafoam while it was running...most of the sea foam would go into the first hole and the second hole...barley any would get into the third hole and the 4th hole, right?

would it be wise to actually turn off the car and individually spray each of the holes? like put a bunch of stuff in each hole? if so, how much...

my car is a 1991 honda accord 2.2l engine nearing its oil change. its an old car that had an intake leak and i only found it recently, with a dirty dirty throttle body.

I would not try that because if you end up putting to much of anything into the manifold while the engine is off you could end up hydrolocking your engine. Trust me I ended up learing the hardway by doing that a couple of years ago.

So If you want to do that make sure you remove all of the spark plugs this way you are not creating any compression. Then you can spray all you want because when you go to turn over the engine that cleaner will just exit the spark plug hole.

i never knew that...so it will turn but wont fire...humm ill try that next time.

well bro, u replied to me too late..haha i warmed up the engine and then turned it off...i sprayed a decent amount of cleaner inside and let it sit for like 10 minutes....started it.....let it idle then revved it.....i think most of it evaporated...i think the engine took longer to start..should of listened to u.

i let the engine idle for a while afterwards. then drove it around like crazy.

but ill try that spark plug technique....never thought of that...so it will still clean out even without the engine starting?

i may try that tomorrow...since my oil change is very near...thanks bro...got ne more ideas =)

Yes it will still clean since the carbon will be wet. Plus you can put alot in. So remove the plugs and pray down the TB. Then pray in the park plug wholes. Turn the engine over just a tad so some of the cleaner passes the rings. Then spray the rest in the TB and in the Spark wholes. Wait 20 min. Then put some rags infront of the spark holes. Turn the engine over, this will remove most of the cleaner or just stop untill you see nothing being sprayed out of the spark holes. Last put everything together and start engine. Go for a nice run then change oil.

Hydrolocking hmmmmm, thanks for striking a nerve from years past

. I bet many folk dont know what this term means, I bet I can explain.
I once had a boat with an I/O 4 banger Volvo & a Cobra drive, the drive had issues with shifting so sometimes I shut the engine off in gear because it was easier to find netural without a load on it. It dieseled, coughed & sputtered a little once when I sut her off in gear, just after filling up @ the gas station, then I went to start it again & I heard a snap.
What happened is the motor took a drink of water into the heads & when it dieseled & the prop spun backwards, it then snapped something, a rod maybe , I forget it was years ago but the engine was shot & a friend bought the boat off me.
Anyways thats " Hydrolocking " for what it's worth.

This is something experienced boaters with big expensive 4 stroke inboards & I/O's try hard to advoid after filling up @ the marina, A simple mistake/ freak accident can cost you $ 15 grand or more....& it happens more often then you think.
