Where would I look on the hydro unit ?The hydro units are going to have a serial number
Mobil 1 5w50 is impossible to find in my area. However the 15w50 version is available for $34 plus tax for 5qts locally to me.Mobil1 5w-50 seems to be popular for Hydrogear hydrostat transmissions.
That's what was recommended to put into mine.
Does Exmark use a different brand? Seems like a lot of people are pretty happy with a good 15w40
Correction: I used 15w-50 from Amazon.Mobil 1 5w50 is impossible to find in my area. However the 15w50 version is available for $34 plus tax for 5qts locally to me.
According to Exmark for their 42" zero turn it specifies 109-9828 hydro oil. What this is I don't know.I'm looking to change the oil in the transmission of a 42in Exmark Zero Turn. I have no idea what model mower it is. I'm looking to see if anyone knows the capacity and type of oil to use.

Unfortunately my local Exmark dealer closed last year. That's a good question for your Exmark dealer.
Is there anything special about Exmark Hydro Oil ? I'm wondering if a 15w40 would work since this mower sees light usage and I tend to keep it in bulk. I bought it non running for cheap due to wiring issues.According to Exmark for their 42" zero turn it specifies 109-9828 hydro oil. What this is I don't know.
Exmark hyd
It's hard to say. It's $16.99 a quart so not exactly cheap but I wouldn't want to put something non-compatible in it either. Is there anything special about Exmark Hydro Oil ? I'll raise the rear of the mower and look for a filter later today. I didn't know it could possibly have filtration. The oil in it now looks like a frothy pistachio green color. It's not currently having any problems but the current oil doesn't look right.Best I can tell, they're just your standard HydroGear ZT3100 drives. If they each have their own little spin-in filter down towards the bottom, they are indeed ZT2800 thru 3400 I believe. Any 15w40 through 20w50 will be fine.
Have a peek. If it's got the spin-ons, you will see small semi-circular guards over them on the outsides, lower than the axles. You drain these drives by removing the filters.I'll raise the rear of the mower and look for a filter later today. I didn't know it could possibly have filtration. I presume the filter is located on the bottom of the housing on the fan side where the circular piece with what appears to be two fasteners holding it on ? Provided mine is the same as the one you shown in the picture.Have a peek. If it's got the spin-ons, you will see small semi-circular guards over them on the outsides, lower than the axles.
