Exhaust stud removal not going as expected

Replacing a stud in a cat. Got it less than a 1/4" out and now it just keeps spinning. The threads in the cat must be messed up by now, but I should be ok with a nut and bolt. Tried a pry bar while turning a wrench but no help. Using an impact gun now to obliterate the threads completely and hoping it comes out then. Any better idea? At least its off the car.

The stud is threaded into the converter flange? I've only seen ones that are splined. You'd press those out, not try and unscrew them.

Cut off wheel.
put in a new one.
Nut and bolt is an ok workaround.

Well, the replacement is threaded,

aren't those pressed in? Just hammer it out?
bolt cutters or cut off wheel as close to the flange as you can, then drill it out.

Ok I can cut it off. Then what? Soon as I put a drill to it, the remaining piece will just spin with the drill bit.

He can do anything he choses once they all out. BUT.
Everyone says press ...... yet one can see at flange, the ones he removed were threaded.....?

I ain't taking the others out, no way. Just clean up the threads. If I knew it was going to be like this, I would have just cleaned up this one's threads too.

Cut it flush, then hammer and punch.

Sounds like the threads are bad. Maybe take an air-chisel and bop the end of the bolt until it breaks loose and you can pull it out? Then drill and use a bolt and nut like you mentioned?
