Wondering if anyone has ever used Citgo Superguard Marine Plus oil. Bass Pro is gonna have it on sale for $5.99 a gallon (compared to $12.99)!!! I have always used Evidude/Johnson XD30 because I knew it exceeded TC-W3 requirements, and provided extra lubercation and detergency. But that Citgo price has got me asking questions. Thaks

I used a couple of gallons of the Citgo two summers ago, and my only complaint was the excess smoke and ***-awful stench that it emitted. The motor ran fine, and I did not notice any excess buildup on the plugs. Joe

The XD-30 isn't the sythetic, so your basically paying for the name on that one. You are right that it exceeds the TC-W3 spec, but so do most 2 stroke oils these days. TC-W3 is a minimum rating, anything that says it on there will probably exceed it, just don't ever use any oil that doesn't say TC-W3 on it. I have been working on Johnrudes for years and never use anything other than regular TC-W3, usually Wal-Mart Supertech. It's like $6 a gallon, and is a Shell base stock. All of the Supertech oil is good oil, use it in all of my cars and transmissions also. Stick with that and decarb your engine every 50 hrs and you'll be fine.
